Seattle Design Commission RFI
On Monday the Design Commission issued a Request for ideas (RFI) calling for proposals and creative ideas for interim uses of vacant development sites. With no particular sites identified, the Commission is asking people to look at different opportunities as well as partnerships in developing interim uses in stalled project sites.
The DC is also aware of the City efforts in developing legislation for interim uses, especially in a pilot project including five surface parking lots. In response to this the Commission believes that the next phase of the RFI will be able to tied this work together. They are also aware that the City is interested in interim uses of the civic square.
The due date for the RFI is May 24th, once these are received the Commission will evaluate them and select the into the four site categories; surface fenced lots, fenced holes in the ground, ongoing construction above street level and ongoing construction below street level. The ideas will be ranked by their creativity, innovation, implementation potential, feasibility, etc. Once the selection is finalized we’ll organize a workshop (no date set yet) to work on implementation of ideas. At that time we’ll see who is proposing what and think about who would need to be involved (property owners, developers, city departments, other organizations) to make the idea a reality.
