🤡🤣Just kidding! Our Youth Development & Education Support staff are dedicated teammates at Atlantic Street Center. Together, they manage the After-School Program, Kinship Care Support Group, Teens As Parents Program, Summer Academy, and events.

Community work looks different everyday. Sometimes it is helping with home work, connecting families with mental health resources, or making dinner for over a dozen young people after school. There is a lot of hard work that goes into planning each session to best support our participants. This is how we build connection in community. It is how we open doors for one another! 🚪

The Milestone Minute continues with our most recent episode focusing on the Kinship Care Support Program. In addition to regular meetings for caregivers, workshops, and case management, our staff works with community advocates to bring more resources to our families.

This is where Trader Joe's Store 157 in West Seattle steps in. For the second year in a row, they gave our families tips and tricks for shopping with them. They also had recipes on hand, delicious samples, and an overall truly curated experience. Families were given a Trader Joe's gift care and also given a fun challenge: buy a week's worth of groceries for $50.

🎓Education starts before school and it can be accessible! With Atlantic Street Center's Early Learning Program, our staff come to you.

Your toddler will receive support to develop a love for books, learn letters and numbers, and build social emotional skills before they even step foot in a classroom. Guardians are taught how to keep the learning going at home, and everyone gets free books and toys to keep!

🧠 It's , so we're shining a light on our amazing (and usually camera-shy) therapists. There is no right way to show up for a counseling session as a therapist or participant. You can sprawl out, play with toys, color, and even meet up at your favorite park. Mental health is all about what makes YOU feel comfortable.🛋️

😄😬Understanding what our participants experience is an important part of Atlantic Street Center. At our most recent staff devleopment meeting, we split into teams to problem-solve a strategy game. The goal? Play the same game our kiddos play to learn communication and emotional regulation skills. 🎭 Obviosuly, drama ensued.

Beyond video games🎮, it is vital for ASC to make sure we meet our participants where they are at. Whether that means a counseling session at a playground or providing an emergency hotel stay, our role is to make the community an easier and more equitable place to live.
