MORE WAYS TO SUPPORT .seattleu!! Venmo donations to @ tatianah-summers and ask your family, employers, friends, ANYONE if they are able to donate. A scholarship solely for the purpose of creating sustainable, reparative action in support of Black students at SU is long overdue. It is our DUTY to hold the university administration accountable to support Black students beyond just words in our email inboxes. Financial reparation is REQUIRED.

SU’s badass BSU organization has compiled a resource list AND are calling for communal resources if you have some to share! SFEJ’s aspiration for economic equality demands recognition of the economic disparities that Black folks in America face. Communal resource sharing is essential to nurturing our collective spirit and BSU’s work is directly in support of this: submit resources through .seattleu’s bio!

This week’s Student Organizer is ! • “My name is Zainab Abid I’m a senior social work major Thats currently working at Downtown emergency services center. Fun fact about me: in my free time I looovee cooking. You can catch me posting my food with 😂. If I’m not cooking I’m probably making some video editing of my friends and I :). I got involved with SFEJ when it first got started because of the treatment students of color were getting from OMA in regards to food insecurity. I needed a place to not only vent about my experience, but also work together with the help of my fellow students to figure out a way to fight for change on campus. Through that I was able to make some great new friendships and was able to find a safe place to talk about all the struggles I was facing as a low income student.”

Next up on our featured organizers series: Susannah! • “Hi! My name is Susannah Sherwood, I use she/her/hers pronouns, and I am a second year majoring in chemistry and minoring in math. I recently got involved with SFEJ because I wanted to do my part to support our school community during this public health crisis. A fun fact about me: I love puzzles—during lockdown I’ve been working on a number of jigsaw puzzles, but I also enjoy crosswords, sudoku, and logic puzzles.”

In effort to help you, our community, get to know us, SFEJ will be featuring one member of our organizing team on all of our social media each week! First up, Miranda Hernandez! • “Hi everyone! My name is Miranda Hernandez, I am a Sociology major and Non-Profit Administration minor and I am a junior. A fun fact about me is that I could eat rice and beans everyday for the rest of my life! I started getting involved in organizing with SFEJ because I was struggling to pay for tuition this year and the school offered no support on how to navigate this. [I started working with SFEJ] so that I could avoid having to drop out.”

Looking to make a small action to help secure the safety of SU’s student worker’s wages? Here’s a way you can! Please send an email to Michelle Clements, VP of HR, at [email protected] with the following transcript:

Hi Michelle, My name is YOUR NAME HERE and I am (major, year) student. I am writing to ask that your department choses to support your students by paying work-study students through spring quarter. Every dollar counts and many of us are struggling to keep us with bills, rent, and pay our tuition. Please help us by paying us our work study hours. We rely on that income and don’t know what we’ll do without out-these are desperate times. @ Seattle, Washington
