The Seattle Fire Department is responding to a hazardous materials incident in Fluke Hall, where a liquid nitrogen tank has been reported to be leaking. The tank is believed to be venting in a fairly standard way. Liquid nitrogen is not toxic or flammable and is not believed to pose any danger to individuals, however the area should be avoided while SFD makes its way to the location and does its investigation. UW police are asking for students, faculty, staff and visitors to avoid Red Square until further notice due to an emergency response near Kane Hall. A person who is not affiliated with the UW apparently died by su***de this morning. Police do not believe there is any threat to the community.

10:40 p.m.: UW Police Department officers are investigating a death that occurred at Nordheim Court Apartments building 7 reported at about 10:20 p.m. The death is being investigated as a homicide. If you are at Nordheim Court, stay indoors and lock doors and windows. Additional information will be provided at alert.uw.edu as it becomes available.
