As our Summer Meals program came to a close today, we want to extend a special thanks to the folks who provided team sports at some of our sites. .t.seattletraining and provided several basketball and soccer training sessions for the kids, who absolutely loved learning and showing off their skills in shooting hoops and scoring goals!

We're so grateful to welcome back Skate Like a Girl Seattle (S.L.A.G.) to our Summer Meals Sites. The kids of all genders enjoyed learning how to stand up on the boards and skate around with the help of their instructors. Skate Like a Girl has been a long-time partner of our summer programming, and we're very excited to continue working with them as we finish out this week!

We are excited to come together on Sunday, September 27th for the annual Polaris Benefit!

This year's Polaris will be a celebration of the combination of North Helpline and Hunger Intervention Program, along with introductions of our Co-Executive Directors, Darcy Buendia and Srijan Chakraborty, and the vision for North Seattle Food Connection (NSFC).

Join us on Sunday, September 27th at noon at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture for a Garden Party themed luncheon Polaris event. Together, we'll raise funds for a better future for all of our neighbors and make sure everyone in our community has a roof over their head and a meal on their plate.

It's the final week of Summer Meals, and we're starting off strong with Snakes & Science. The kids were so excited to learn about the different types of snakes, their biology, natural history, and how to handle them safely. Then, they got to interact with the colorful snakes up close! We want to extend a huge thanks to Mike for bringing this fun and educational activity to the sites today!

Major thanks to for bringing all of the creative energy back to our Summer Meals sites! Snapology is a program that introduces kids to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) through fun, hands-on activities with Legos! The kids had such a great time playing with the colorful Legos and building new and exciting creations.

We were so happy to host Gansango Dance Company again at Lake City Court! They brought the energy and rhythm to our Summer Meals site once again, which got all of the kids eager to move to the beat 🥁

As North Seattle Food Connection, we're combining services in all new ways! For example, last week, Jennifer and Jake set up a cooking demonstration outside the Bitterlake Food Bank location using foods that neighbors could find at the food bank, such as pita pizzas, cucumber aguas frescas, and granola protein balls. This is just the beginning, so stay tuned for more ways we're expanding services!

Last week we had the pleasure of holding another Farmer's Market Demo! Chef Jennifer, her assistant Jake, and her son Rafa made a delicious quinoa salad using farm-fresh cucumbers. Jake is joining us for his summer practicum while he is completing his Master's of Public Health in Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health Programs. We're so excited to continue working with the Farmer's Market and the University of Washington to bring fun classes and fresh food to our neighbors!
