Filing week means you have the opportunity to use your voice to shape our future!

Throughout this year we've talked about the value in lifting every voice in our district, as well as the grassroots nature of the Democratic Party. For too many, and for too long, party politics has felt like a top-down game political insiders get to play. We have tried to shift that dynamic in our district, and filing week is a critical moment in that effort.

Precinct Committee Officers ("PCOs") are the foundation of the Democratic Party. In even years like 2026, you have the chance to file to become one.

PCOs elect the officers of their Legislative District Organizations and County Central Committees, who then go on to elect the officers of the State Central Committee. State Central Committee officers from across the country then elect the officers of the National Committee. In this way, PCOs affect who runs the Democratic Party from the bottom-up.

PCOs also have universal voting rights in their Legislative District Organizations, including in appointing leaders to public office like we did in 2025, and have the critical responsibility of engaging and empowering voters in their precinct.

As the saying goes, nothing changes if nothing changes.

If we're going to build a Democratic Party that better reflects our communities — one that understands and reflects us, and acts in accordance with our values — we need you to become a PCO.

Filing is open until 5:00 PM on Friday, May 8, but the sooner you file then better!

Our friends at Puget Ridge Cohousing are welcoming Common Power for a community conversation about civic engagement. This is a welcoming space to learn, ask questions, and connect with friends and neighbors who care about our future.

They plan to discuss: ways to take concrete action, opportunities to engage in support roles, and what Common Power is doing to help us win the midterms this year.

As those of you who attended our panel in March know, Common Power is an amazing, inclusive, multi-generational voting rights organization mobilizing volunteers across the country to get out the vote. Whether you're new to civic engagement or a seasoned veteran looking for new opportunities, you're welcome to join!

Address: 7020 18th Avenue Southwest, Seattle, Washington 98106

When: Thursday, April 23, 7:00-8:30 PM

This is NOT a fundraiser. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Come join us for a town hall with the state legislators of the 34th Legislative District! In three weeks, on Friday, May 8 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM, we will gather together to talk with Senator Emily Alvarado, Representative Brianna Thomas, and Representative Joe Fitzgibbon to discuss the 2026 short session, their achievements, and what they are prioritizing for 2027.

This town hall will take place at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center (4408 Delridge Way SW). We are scheduled for 90 minutes, which will include 30 minutes of opening dialogue and prepared questions and 60 minutes of questions from our live audience.

History Note:

The Youngstown Cultural Arts Center building, over 100-years-old, is rooted in West Seattle’s rich history. The name Youngstown honors the micro-neighborhood of Delridge and pays homage to our community’s old Youngstown School.

Our program will take place in the newly renovated Thelma Dewitty Theater. Thelma Dewitty was the first Black teacher in Seattle Public Schools and was active in the NAACP, serving as Seattle branch president in the late 1950s.

Her first teaching job in 1947 was at Frank B. Cooper Elementary School, which was given landmark status in 2002 and converted into the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in 2006.

Thank you to our panelists from and and our incredible moderator, for joining us in a discussion about organizing a nonviolent resistance in Seattle.

We are privileged to live in a community so committed to supporting one another, and we look forward to developing our partnerships.

A central theme of last night's meeting was "hope" — not as an abstract idea, but as a call to action. Our organizations center hope in our work and provide opportunities for people to engage in ways that make hope tangible.
