We’re turning back the clock to a literal groundbreaking moment! Back in May 2024, we broke ground with the White Center Community Development Association on the White Center HUB project.

Built around “Hope, Unity, and Belonging”, the HUB brings together trusted local organizations offering health, youth, and family services such as: Southwest Youth And Family Services, HealthPoint, FEEST Seattle, and the YES Foundation of White Center.

Since officially opening earlier this year, the HUB has brought the community together and provides essential support to those who need it most.

PDAs are unique, independent organizations that are legally separate from local governments. They’re created to address a community’s needs — like affordable housing.

What used to be a parking lot is now 232 affordable homes! 🎉🏠

We’re still buzzing with excitement after cutting the ribbon at Copperleaf Northgate last week. Together with BRIDGE Housing and King County, Washington - Government, we have worked for nearly a decade to build our largest development which will keep people rooted in their homes.

“These apartments are going to help people stay in this region as we deal with the biggest crisis in our nation right now—which is the cost of living.” -King County Executive Girmay Zahilay.

By connecting affordable housing to high-capacity transit, Copperleaf helps expand access to jobs, education, and essential services across the county.

What can a century-old brick building tell us about Seattle’s affordable housing future? 🧱🕰️

To answer that, we have to go back to the 1980s, a turning point in how people lived in the city. Low-income homeowners found themselves becoming renters. This was due to economic pressures and changing neighborhoods. In response, Community Roots acquired our first large apartment building in 1987: the Bremer, a 48-unit brick walk-up built in 1925.
