Coast Guard members from throughout the Northwest District recently joined the Seattle Seahawks for a change of command ceremony at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton. 🏈🇺🇸

During the ceremony, the Northwest District passed the 12s flag to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. Throughout the 2025-2026 season, the USCG Northwest District has been the honorary military unit of the Seahawks. We would like to think that our partnership contributed to the Hawks Super Bowl win!! 🏆

Following the game, service members were able to watch the team practice as well as meet players and coaches!

From one team to another, we’re proud to serve alongside our fellow service members and the communities we call home. 🫡

Incredible survival and teamwork off the Washington coast! 🚁🌊

Our crews rescued two kiteboarders who were swept out to sea and stranded at Damon Point, WA. After fighting 55-degree water and exposure to the elements for nearly two hours, both people were hoisted to safety by an Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk crew navigating low ceilings and poor visibility.

“Two hours is a long time in that wind and water, and they stayed with it,” said Lt. Cdmr. Alex Cardenas, search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector Columbia River. “They did the hardest part before we ever got overhead.”

Huge shoutout to Air Station Astoria, Station Grays Harbor and local responders for the coordinated effort! BZ! 👏

⚠️ PNW Safety Tip: The coast is unforgiving. Watch the surf, check the tides, stay off the jetties, and respect the cold water!

Responding in Crisis 🚨 Saving Lives 🛟 It takes all of us 💪

Coast Guard crews, alongside the U.S. Navy, Canadian Coast Guard, state, local, and good Samaritans, responded Thursday after a seaplane carrying 11 people crashed in Shallow Bay on Sucia Island.

The boating and aviation community came together to save lives and help those in need. Vessels in the area conducted rescues, rafted boats together to provide a stable surface, and off duty medical professionals triaged the passengers before first responders arrived on scene.

All 11 people were accounted for, and they were transported to local hospitals for further medical care.

The Coast Guard dispatched resources, worked alongside the Orcas Island Fire and Rescue to coordinate transportation of patients, and ensured the threat to the environment was mitigated.

Bravo Zulu to every responder and good Samaritan. Our collective training, teamwork, and professionalism made this response possible.

The NTSB is investigating the crash.
