One of the best parts of this job is getting to travel all over America, meet people, and see how they live, work, and...eat. During one shoot at the Minnesota State Fair, we finally got the opportunity to see what all the hubbub was about. Sure, I'd heard about the fair but I had no idea how amazing it is. In between talking with Minnesotans about the importance of voting for candidates who support working people, we tried all of the legendary treats, including Sweet Martha's chocolate chip cookies (an all-time fav of mine), cheese curds for miles, and the best part: Hanging with Minnesotans. Can't wait for my next trip to the fairgrounds.

Throughout all of our campaigns, we implement both story-telling and data presentation to effectively communicate with and mobilize voters. In our work with Washington Conservation Action, we used both of these strategies to help make the Evergreen Future initiative and climate action a top concern of lawmakers, move key legislation, and mobilize voters based on their shared core value of responsibility.

The cost of living — from utility rates to groceries to rent to gas prices — is out of control. In Detroit, this is felt deeply by the communities that are struggling to keep their lights on, pay rent, and afford basic essentials. In our work with Detroit Action, we spotlight voices in the community and give them a platform to share their frustrations, which is incredibly effective in mobilizing residents to get out and vote.

Women's bodily autonomy continues to be on the legislative chopping block around the country. We work with Planned Parenthood Votes New Mexico to strategically mobilize voters and provide context and information on the dangerous legislation threatening abortion access and access to reproductive healthcare.

We had a fantastic time at the 30th AFL-CIO Constitutional Convention in Minneapolis this past week. It's not often that you get the chance to be in a room with hundreds of dedicated, kind, and hardworking people. From freight signalmen to nurses to electricians to educators, we loved getting to chat with people from all over the country (and WORLD! Shoutout to the ITUC folks who were there representing labor unions and federations from across the globe). Thanks to everyone who took the time to stop by our booth and chat with us, and thank you to the beautiful city of Minneapolis and the AFL-CIO for hosting such an amazing event!

Not What I Meant.

TL;DR
1. Graham Platner’s candidacy is the latest example of the weakness in Democratic recruiting and candidate cultivation.
2. Regardless of how accomplished they may have been in the past, Democratic voters are done with candidates who remember seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.
3. Pro-Nazi sympathies and serial sexual misdeeds should be disqualifiers for candidates and also invitations to the family Thanksgiving dinner.
4. Saying “I was going through a rough patch” is not the same as taking responsibility for your actions.

Just landed in MPLS for the AFL-CIO Convention.

Millions of union members, from nurses to electricians to teachers to thousands of other jobs, trained in political power and ready to get the job done this fall.

At a time when Americans overwhelmingly see unions in a favorable light, it's more important than ever to make the link between voting and wages, benefits, and quality of life. In our work with the AFL-CIO, we're humbled to be in a position where we get the opportunity to uplift the voices of union members talking in their own words about why it's crucial to vote for candidates that support us all in reclaiming the American dream of hard work being enough to build a prosperous life.

A recent shoot took us to Yakima, WA. It was my first time in town and I was reminded of the vast diversity — of people, climates, land, and quality of life — in this state and in this country.

Just a couple of hours from Seattle, the Yakima area has not shared in the economic boom that remade the Puget Sound region. We heard a lot of stories of people and families barely getting by and not getting by. I was also struck by the area's rich history, indomitable people, resources, and enduring potential. The downtown is intact compared to many other cities and towns around the country, there's a robust tradition of civic involvement, and there are a lot of people and organizations doing the work every day to improve lives in their community.

Yakima seems a good representation of both our history and also the challenges and opportunities of the future. The "system" has clearly failed many local people. What comes next and what role can we play?
