🌟 Why learn Korean?

Maybe you first found Korean through K-pop, K-dramas, dance, food, beauty, gaming, or social media. Learning the language lets you go further: understand lyrics without waiting for translations, recognize the meaning behind the words, and discover the stories, history, and people beyond the screen.

Korean culture is not just something to stream or scroll through. It is part of our Seattle community. From Korean-owned businesses and cultural organizations to language schools, community events, and festivals, Korean and Korean American communities help make our region vibrant.

The Seattle area is also home to the America K-Pop Association, a youth-focused organization that uses K-pop and culture to encourage creativity, leadership, cultural connection, and positive community engagement. Seattle’s K-Fest brings people together through Korean music, food, performances, and cultural experiences.

At OneWorld Now!, students can learn to read Hangul, hold real conversations, and earn high school credit while exploring Korean language and culture. Turn an interest in K-pop or K-dramas into a skill that helps you connect with others, build confidence, and understand more of the world around you.

🌏 Why learn Mandarin Chinese?

Mandarin Chinese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and it is also an important part of life in Seattle.

Chinese, including Mandarin and Cantonese, is the second most prevalent language other than English in Seattle, after Spanish. Seattle’s 2023 language report estimates that about 31,758 people in the city use Chinese languages, and King County is home to roughly 127,000 Chinese speakers.

Learning Mandarin is an opportunity to connect more deeply with the people and communities that make Seattle vibrant: classmates, neighbors, families, local businesses, community spaces, and generations of Chinese and Chinese American residents.

At OWN, Mandarin students learn to recognize characters, share everyday ideas, and navigate conversations across cultures. Along the way, they gain the confidence to step into unfamiliar spaces, make connections, and see their own community from a broader perspective.

🌍 Why learn Arabic?

Arabic is more than a language spoken around the world: it is part of the rich fabric of our own Seattle community.

Learning Arabic gives students a chance to connect more thoughtfully with classmates, neighbors, families, businesses, and community members. It is a way to explore new perspectives, build real communication skills, and learn to listen across differences.

At OneWorld Now!, Arabic students do more than memorize vocabulary. They build confidence, cultural understanding, and leadership skills that help them engage with the world and their local community with curiosity and respect.

OneWorld Now! Students have been in Morocco for 5 days and are loving every minute! πŸ€©πŸ‡²πŸ‡¦

Check out some highlights from our time in Marrakech! We had two tours of the Medina to learn history and enjoy foods, visited the High Atlas Foundation to learn about climate sustainability and plant trees, then we met with the Amazigh women of the Zarbiat Achbatou Cooperative to enjoy lunch and learn about women’s empowerment through textile artistry, literacy, and cultural immersion.
Thank you Cultural Caravans for leading us on this adventure. We can’t wait for what else our journey 😁
