Last night, we welcomed Chef of Bad Chancla to the FareStart kitchen for his first Guest Chef Night.

But his time with our students started before dinner service. Last week, Chef José visited our Interbay kitchen for student capstones, where students presented a three-course menu inspired by his Guest Chef Night dinner. Thank you, Chef José, for taking the time to taste their work, share your expertise and connect with students ahead of the event.

For Guest Chef Night, Chef José worked alongside FareStart students to prepare a three-course menu featuring Wok’d Linguica Green Beans, Pollo Frito & Puré de Papas, and Sweet Plantain Bread Pudding.

Thank you to our volunteer servers and sponsor US Foods as well as our other sponsor Wells Fargo whose support helps make Guest Chef Night possible.

Guest Chef Nights continue through the end of the year, and many dates are filling quickly. Grab your tickets before they’re gone. https://www.farestart.org/dining/guest-chef-night/

For Damian, a career in the kitchen was a goal years in the making.

His love of cooking started as a child alongside his uncle, but setbacks delayed his path into the culinary industry. When Damian finally enrolled in FareStart’s Food Pathways Program, he was ready to build the professional kitchen skills he had been working toward.

Today, Damian is a FareStart graduate working at Little Jaye in South Park, building his culinary career and saving for an apartment. And tonight, he’s back in a FareStart kitchen—this time volunteering for Guest Chef Night with .

We’re grateful to Damian for giving his time and staying connected to the FareStart community. His next goal? One day, he hopes to return to FareStart as an employee and help others pursue their own.

“I really want to come back and work at FareStart. That’s my goal.”

August is Make-A-Will Month—a good reminder to make sure your plans reflect what matters most to you.

For longtime FareStart supporters Kat Korab and Alex Hopmann, that includes making FareStart part of their estate plan. “We want to stay engaged with FareStart for as long as we can, and to help carry its mission forward long after we can’t.”

Legacy gifts through a will, trust, retirement account or other beneficiary designation can help ensure FareStart remains a resource for adults and young people building skills, stability and pathways to economic mobility for years to come.

If creating or updating your estate plan has been on your list, consider making time for it this month—and thinking about the people, organizations and values you want your legacy to support.

For our recent Guest Chef Night, our kitchen felt like home. We were thrilled to welcome back Chef John Sundstrom and Sous Chef Jordan Hilliard of Lark.

Chef John has been a longtime supporter of FareStart, but this was his first time cooking with our students since before the pandemic. You could feel what that meant to everyone in the kitchen. It was a night of great food and even better mentorship.

Thank you to our incredible volunteer servers from Expedia for giving your time and energy to make every table feel special. We're also grateful to our sponsors, US Foods and Wells Fargo whose support makes Guest Chef Night possible and keeps our job training programs thriving.

And to everyone who joined us, thank you. Your support fuels FareStart's mission.

This isn't goodbye — it's see you next time. Guest Chef Nights are scheduled through the end of the year, and events are selling out quickly. Grab your tickets before they're gone: https://www.farestart.org/dining/guest-chef-night/

At Carnation Farms volunteers harvested more than 200 pounds of lettuce for use in FareStart’s Community & School Meals Program. Efforts like this reduce food waste, support regional growers and help increase access to fresh, nutritious and culturally relevant food.

Our thanks to Carnation Farms and the volunteers who brought this produce from the field to FareStart.

There’s more to harvest this season. Join an upcoming volunteer opportunity: https://www.farestart.org/volunteer/

Together, players, sponsors and supporters raised more than $280,000 to support FareStart’s job training programs and help create pathways to employment and economic mobility.

“This year’s tournament marks a special milestone — our 25th annual event in Amazon’s history. Things really took off when we teamed up with FareStart several years ago, and that partnership has only made this event better every year since,” said Jake Iwen, Amazon Golf Committee Member.
