Protecting rural communities while combating climate decline, WA lawmakers restored $60 million in crucial wildfire funding. The investment ensures WA can keep its people and natural landscapes safe regardless of federal budget cuts.

After the record heat in Western Washington on Monday, attention will turn to central and eastern Washington on Tuesday as strong winds, low humidity, and continued heat will create conditions ripe for swift spread of wildfire.

This past Thursday, WA Dems took action to protect voting rights, passing legislation that restores preclearance requirements and helps guard against voter suppression in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s continued weakening of the Voting Rights Act. While Dems fought to strengthen fair and accessible elections, WA GOP once again voted in lockstep against these protections.

Over 200 new Washington laws take effect Thursday. Among them are tax rollbacks and hikes and guidance for retailers on the penny phase-out.

We thank the first responders and wildfire professionals who are working around the clock to ensure the protection of lives, livelihoods, and structures.
