At the Seattle Police Foundation, we're all about supporting the people and programs that make a difference in our community.

As an independent nonprofit, we help provide resources that support the Seattle Police Department and the communities it serves. From specialized equipment and training to employee wellness and community outreach programs, our work helps strengthen police services and build meaningful community connections.

Behind every grant is an idea.

This week, SPD officers and staff presented their grant requests to the Seattle Police Foundation's Grant Committee, sharing ideas focused on equipment, crime prevention, and community outreach.

These presentations are an important part of our grant process, giving committee members the opportunity to hear directly from the teams we support and better understand their needs.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to prepare and present their requests, and to our Grants Committee members for their time and dedication to supporting SPD.

The impact the Seattle Police Foundation's work goes far beyond the programs and equipment we fund. Sometimes, that impact is lifesaving.

Seattle Police Foundation Board Member Zach Laster-Hazzard knows this firsthand. In 2018, he survived a shooting thanks to the responding officers and their emergency medical training.

Today, Zach serves on our Board of Directors, bringing a unique perspective and a personal understanding of the importance of supporting the men and women of the Seattle Police Department.

His story is a powerful reminder of why we continue to invest in the training, equipment, and resources that help officers serve our community.

When emergencies happen, Seattle Police officers are often the first to arrive. For officers trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), that can mean providing lifesaving care before additional emergency responders can safely reach a patient.

Last week, 14 SPD officers began a new chapter in that important work, choosing to take part in an intensive 11-week EMT training program. Over the coming months, they'll spend approximately 25 hours each week building knowledge and hands-on skills needed to work toward their EMT certification.

With approximately 85 EMT-trained officers already serving across SPD, this new class represents another step toward expanding the department's emergency medical response capabilities.

The Seattle Police Foundation is proud to fund this training, helping provide more officers with the skills and resources to care for people when they need it most.

We look forward to following their progress as they complete their training in December and prepare for the certification exams.

Grant Highlight | Recruit Training Gym Equipment 💪

Preparing the next generation of SPD officers means supporting both their training and their physical readiness.

Through a Seattle Police Foundation grant, the recruit training facility received new fitness equipment, including a squat rack, barbell, weight plates, bench and air bike. The equipment gives recruits additional resources to build and maintain the strength and fitness required for the job, while also allowing instructors to train alongside them and model the importance of staying physically fit throughout their careers.

It’s an investment not just in equipment, but in building healthy habits and a strong foundation for the officers who will serve Seattle.
