The Washington State Housing Finance Commission continues to work closely with state and local partners to support residents who have been displaced by the devastating wildfires in Eastern Washington.

The Commission has temporarily waived certain tenant requirements for Post-Year 15 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) properties, making vacant affordable housing units available more quickly to those in need.

WILDFIRE ASSISTANCE FOR OUR COMMUNITY

If your home or business was damaged in the wildfires, you’re not alone. Washington State Department of Revenue is providing disaster‑related support—business tax extensions, penalty waivers, and property tax relief for destroyed or damaged property.

The Washington State Housing Finance Commission is teaming up with Ballmer Group on a first-of-its-kind partnership for Washington families.

The new Washington Family Housing Fund pairs $1.5 billion in philanthropic capital with our role as the state's housing finance agency to get 10,000+ affordable apartments built across the state.

Here's what makes the partnership unique:

⭐ It adds capital to the system. The fund doesn't draw on limited public resources like federal housing tax credits or tax-exempt bonds. Instead, housing developers apply for forgivable loans, leveraging other funding sources.
⭐ It's flexible. The fund can support projects that don't always fit neatly into our existing public financing tools, like smaller developments or those in rural communities.
⭐ It's built for families. Rental units funded through the program must have two or more bedrooms and stay affordable to households earning about 50% of area median income for at least 60 years.
⭐ Did we mention it’s $1.5 billion?

It's one more step toward a Washington where every family can find a home they can afford.

Congratulations to Specialized Housing Inc. on the grand opening of Felida Park Senior Housing in Clark County! This 55+ community for low-income seniors with health issues offers 65 apartments and includes space for PACE -- Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly -- provided by Providence Elderplace. We are proud to be one of the public funders of this property, to which we allocated federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits worth $13 million in private investment. Thanks to our Commissioners Diana Perez and Ann Melone for being there to celebrate the opening with our partners!

Shannon Howley - Friend of Housing awardee

🎉 Celebrating the 2025 Friend of Housing Excellence in Property Management Award Winner! 🎉

We are so pleased to recognize Shannon Howley, the community manager at the Reserve of Lynnwood, with our first-ever Friend of Housing Excellence in Property Management Award.

As the community manager of the Reserve at Lynnwood senior apartments, Shannon has brought in financial educators, mobile clinics and mental health counselors to benefit residents where they live.

When a storm caused a burst pipe and flooded several units late one night, Shannon made sure every resident was safe and sound. She followed up with meetings to give updates and answer questions, updated the emergency response plan, and made sure the problem wouldn’t happen again.

Through Shannon’s compassion and open communications, resident trust in management significantly increased.. As one former staffer said, “Shannon taught me not just how to manage a property, but how to care for a community.”
