The Wallingford Food Bank had a surprise visitor today! Our neighbors might recognize Rigo, who lives a few blocks away and usually sites politely off leash in his yard. He strolled right into the food bank this afternoon! After doing a quick loop around the warehouse like an inspector, our Food Bank Manager Shana walked him home. 😊

The 2026-27 school year is right around the corner, which means it’s almost time for our annual Back-to-School event! This year, we expect to provide 350 students with new backpacks filled with school supplies and need your help to make it happen!

We’re collecting donations through August 12, focusing on the following high-priority items:

- backpacks
- binders
- lined paper (college ruled)
- scientific calculators
- USB flash drives

We hosted our second-ever Community Baby Shower in partnership with Community Health Plan of Washington this past weekend and it was an absolute blast! About 200 people from more than 60 families showed up to shop from a collection of free baby items, swap items of their own, and connect to a wide variety of programs and resources offered by FamilyWorks and our partners.

Families went home with strollers, cribs, baby carriers, free children’s shoes donated by Wear A Big Smile Foundation, and more. Folks also made their own bracelets and decorated onesies and bibs at our craft station.

We'd like to give a big thank you to Community Health Plan of Washington, Wear A Big Smile Foundation, Denise Louie Education Center, El Centro de la Raza, Diaper Stork, International Community Health Services (ICHS), Refugee Women's Alliance (ReWA), and Public Health - Seattle & King County for coming out to meet with families and helping to make this such a special event!

We can't wait to do it again!

Our Community Baby Shower & Children's Fair is this weekend! Join us at our Family Resource Center (1005 NE 67th St 98115) on Saturday, July 25, from 11 am–1 pm for an afternoon of celebration for families raising children ages 0-5!

We'll have food, raffles, and community organizations to support you in navigating the world of parenting and give your children a great start to life. Sponsored by Community Health Plan of Washington, the baby shower and fair will have all sorts of resources available, including social support, childcare, healthcare, and benefits! We hope to see you there!

Please help us give a warm welcome to our two newest team members, Gail and Anna!

Gail Miller (she/they) joins us as our new Family Programs & Basic Needs Coordinator. They will oversee our Supportive Family Programming at St. Luke's Apartments and the Diaper Bank and Community Closet at our Family Resource Center.

Anna Bauer (she/her) joins our Resource Navigation team as one of our Community Resource Navigators. She will be based primarily at our Seattle Public Schools sites, meeting with families of students to assess their needs and help connect them to public benefits and other vital programs.

We have an organization-wide closure coming up this Friday, July 24! All of our programming will be closed for a staff wellness day. We encourage folks to visit the University District Food Bank, which will be open on Friday from 11 am–4 pm. We will reopen next week for our regular business hours.

Our Supportive Family Programs team hosted our first-ever Community Creative Market on Saturday, perfectly timed to capitalize on the crowds from the Wallingford Parade! FamilyWorks program participants set up booths and sold artwork, jewelry, homemade baked goods, pupusas and other delicious foods. Members of our Supportive Family Programs team set up a bracelet making station with colorful beads and information about our programs. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit of our community.

We'd like to give a big thank you to all the participants who came together to make our first-ever Community Creative Market possible!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to parade with us on Saturday! We had a great time representing FamilyWorks alongside other community organizations, businesses, dance troupes, and marching bands on a lovely sunny day. This year, the organizers of the Wallingford Parade included a food drive to support our work, raising nearly 200 pounds of food!

This is one of our favorite traditions, and we hope you can join us next year for the parade's 75th year!

We're so excited for our first-ever Community Creative Market this Saturday, July 11! Swing by the parking lot behind our Wallingford Food Bank from 11 am–1 pm to shop for handmade goods, artwork, crafts, jewelry, and food, all made by FamilyWorks program participants!

We can't wait to see what our amazing participants have created to share with you all. Make sure to show up early to watch us participate in the Wallingford Parade, which the organizers have also made into a food drive to support our programs. You can bring non-perishable food items with you to donate in our bins!
