Today—and every day—the Seattle Women’s Commission stands against victim-blaming and works to promote education, prevention, and accountability around sexual violence.

As we close out Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we honor survivors and thank the advocates, organizations, and community members leading this work across our region.

Together, we continue to show up, speak out, and build safer communities.

The Seattle Women’s Commission stands in solidarity with survivors and is calling for the immediate resignation of King County Assessor John Arthur Wilson.

Public officials must be held to the highest standards of conduct—especially when allegations involve abuse of power or actions that undermine survivor safety and public trust. These allegations are deeply concerning and incompatible with public service.

We believe the people of King County deserve elected leadership that upholds safety, accountability, and respect for the law. Stalking is an escalating form of gender-based violence. Remaining in office while facing these allegations is an insult to survivors.

Honored to stand together as the Seattle Women’s Commission across two meaningful moments at City Hall.

In March, we received a proclamation from the City of Seattle recognizing Women’s History Month. And today, we joined Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck to receive a proclamation for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Two separate moments. One shared purpose. Celebrating progress, uplifting survivors, and recommitting to the work ahead. We’re grateful to be in this work, together. 💜

Meet Kate Faoro Wright (she/her)
Housing Stability Subcommittee Member + Women’s Health & Wellbeing Subcommittee Member

“I was inspired to join the Seattle Women’s Commission to represent and rally for the intersectional interests and wellbeing of women.”

Kate is passionate about advancing women’s health outcomes and challenging systems rooted in inequity. She believes women deserve care that is truly centered on their needs and is committed to advocating for more equitable, informed, and inclusive healthcare systems.

Meet Sirena Styles (she/her)

“I joined the Commission because I want to be included in the conversations and decisions that affect women—and to help ensure others feel included too.”

Sirena is passionate about breaking the glass ceiling and expanding equitable job opportunities for women in Seattle. She believes every woman deserves a fair chance to thrive, lead, and shape the future of her community.

This month, the Seattle Women’s Commission is celebrating women across our community who are working to advance equity and opportunity in Seattle.

Introducing Naseem Ghazanfari (she/her)
Commissioner, Communications Subcommittee
Cardiologist, MD, Kaiser Permanente

“As a woman in a largely male-dominated field and as an immigrant woman, I’ve experienced some of the unique challenges women face.”

Naseem is passionate about addressing the many issues that shape the lives of women and girls in our community, including gender-based violence, systemic barriers, stigma, and gender inequity. Through her work and service, she is committed to helping advance women’s rights and support stronger, more equitable communities.

💬 Her message to women and girls in Seattle:
“The Seattle Women’s Commission isn’t just about women and girls of Seattle—it is them, and together we make it stronger.”

Fun fact: Naseem loves wine, cheese, and quiet evenings with her husband. They met online playing backgammon in 2005 and spent two years long-distance with him in the U.S. and her in Iran—long before online dating was common!

✨ Women’s History Month Spotlight ✨

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, the Seattle Women’s Commission is sharing stories from women helping shape a stronger, more equitable Seattle.

Today we’re featuring Talley Mills (she/her)
Co-Chair
Graduate Student, University of Washington

“The 2024 election left me feeling discouraged and uncertain, and I wanted to channel that energy into something productive.”

Talley is passionate about addressing gender-based violence and supporting survivors. She believes violence against women has far-reaching impacts beyond physical safety and is committed to building systems that prioritize prevention, survivor support, and long-term stability.

💬 Her message to women and girls in Seattle:
“Your voice, your ideas, and your creativity matter—don’t wait for permission to shape the community and future you want to see.”

Fun fact: Talley is opening an art gallery in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood this year that will showcase established and emerging local artists and create an inclusive space for inspiration, curiosity, and community.
