Companis WA

Companis WA Get connected with an impactful, tailor-made volunteer role at companis.org! In 1997, Companis became a secular nonprofit with 501(c)3 registration.

Companis makes our community healthier, safer, and more just by matching skilled volunteers with nonprofits throughout Seattle, King County and Snohomish County. Companis began in 1994 as an outreach of Seattle First Baptist Church, matching those seeking service opportunities with nonprofits that need them, with founding Pastor Craig Darling modeling the fledgling agency on a Jesuit Volunteer Cor

ps program he observed in Detroit. Over 22 years, Companis has made more than 800 placements, in 131 agencies in the Puget Sound region.

David showed up for families in Everett. Here's what became possible.
Interfaith Family Shelter needed hands-on help preparing rooms for incoming families. Companis matched them with the right volunteer at the right moment. The rest is in the video.

New episode of People Powering Change is out, hosted by Companis alum Gary Davis.
Episode 3 features Christine Lindquist and Maggie Konstanski, director of Lahai Dental Services, talking about the Seattle King County Clinic and the growing need for licensed medical professionals to serve patients who lack access to affordable care. Real work, real community need, real people showing up.
Companis’ own Jillian Harmon also joins as a featured guest, sharing non-medical volunteer opportunities across King and Snohomish counties. If you’ve been wondering where your skills could make a difference, this is a great place to start.

This is what multiplication looks like in real life.

One skilled volunteer, placed with purpose, inside a nonprofit that needs exactly what they offer. Then another. And another.

Your gift to Companis makes every placement possible, strengthening many organizations across this community at once.

Two new placements. Two organizations. One community strengthened.

Last month, Companis welcomed David and Kim into placements with Volunteers of America Western Washington and Interfaith Family Shelter in Everett. Their expertise is already at work, building capacity that extends far beyond any single organization.

This is what multiplication looks like in practice.

We don't compete with the nonprofits we serve. We lift them up.

Through a new partnership with UW's School of Social Work, Companis placed MSW students at Project Open Arms, a trans-led nonprofit, where their work transformed how the organization welcomes new clients. Nine-plus months of skilled capacity. Real, lasting change.

One gift to Companis ripples across many. Check the link to give before April 30. https://donate.stripe.com/fZu28r4Azgo84XJaVgcs800

This is how Companis works.

We match skilled volunteers with nonprofits that need exactly what they offer in communications, operations, fundraising, direct service, and more.

Your gift funds the coordination and infrastructure that makes every placement possible. One gift. Many organizations strengthened.

What becomes possible when nonprofits have the capacity to do their best work?

April is National Volunteer Month and we're thinking about multiplication.

One skilled volunteer, placed with purpose, inside an organization that needs exactly what they offer. What becomes possible from there? A lot.

Companis has spent 30+ years placing skilled volunteers where they can have the greatest impact, strengthening nonprofits from the inside out, across many organizations at once.

Your gift makes that possible.

King County celebrated the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a Thursday event at Seattle University, with new Companis partner agency BlackPast.org honored with the Larry Gossett Service Award for 2026. The event featured new King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, Councilmembers Rhonda Lewis (the first Black woman to serve on the County Council), Council President Sarah Perry and more.

Executive Zahilay presented the BlackPast.org's director LaNesha DeBardelaben with the Gossett Award. Blackpast.org is the largest online encyclopedia on African American and Global African history on the Internet. It was founded in Seattle by esteemed academic and historian Dr. Quintard Taylor, who died in September last year.

MLK Day events in Seattle include (see accompany poster) those organized by the Seattle MLK, Jr. Organizing Coalition, and events in Everett by the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee. Those include Sunday, January 18th at 4:00 PM - Worship Experience at First Presbyterian Church, Everett, and
Monday, January 19th at 11:00 AM - Community March beginning at Everett Memorial Stadium, followed by a Rally at the VOAWW Carl Gipson Center, Everett.

We hope you'll make your voice and your heart heard in community.
