Art From Your Heart Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for adults to either lead a small group of students in an art or craft activity of your choice, or to support other teachers and volunteers who are leading activities. The range of possible activities is quite broad and can include simply looking at works of art and talking or writing about them, drawing exercises, theater games, singing and/or writing songs, anything arts- and crafts-related that will keep students engaged for about an hour and ten minutes. Support might occur in one classroom/area, or you might be asked to float around and help where needed. We can assist with generating ideas as well as with getting materials together.
The date for Art From Your Heart Day (AFYHD) is Wednesday, June 11th from 8:30 to 9:40. Prior to that day, a signup will be created for all the offerings, and teachers will help their students sign up for an activity. We encourage teachers to only send two or three students to each activity, so that there is a mix of students in each. On the day of the event students will disperse to the different areas of the building where their art experiences will occur and return to class afterward. The more grownups we have leading activities, the smaller we can make the group sizes!
Please let Mr. McAuley ([email protected]) know if you are interested in leading an activity or prefer to offer support. If you have questions about your volunteer status or completing the volunteer application/training, please contact the office. General questions about AFYHD can be directed to me or other staff members who are knowledgeable about this event: Ms. Paulk, Mr. Sohn, Ms. Orr, Ms. Anema and probably several others.
Thanks!
Rory McAuley (1st Grade & Arts Coordinator)
