Today, our community pauses to honor the life and service of Major Ariana G. Linse Savino, a Covington native who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation.

Today, Major Savino will be awarded the Martin Luther King Meritorious Service Medal posthumously, one of the highest honors bestowed by King County. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities through service and leadership.

Major Savino was killed in service on March 12, 2026, when her team's KC-135 aircraft crashed in Iraq. Her courage, dedication, and commitment to serving others continue to inspire our community.

The award will be accepted on her behalf by her parents, Darren and Omayra Linse, and presented by King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn. Major Savino was selected as the District 9 recipient of this prestigious honor.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Ariana and her family and join the community in remembering her extraordinary life, service, and sacrifice.

The ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. today, with the District 9 presentation expected closer to 2 p.m. Community members who wish to watch can tune in here: https://kingcounty.gov/en/independents/about-king-county/king-county-tv

As I have stated persistently for years, it is time for King County to withdraw completely from the King County Regional Homelessness Authority.

After an audit found nearly $13 million unaccounted for or overspent at the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA), leaders say they’ve started ...

If you were impacted by December’s historic flooding, make sure to apply for available federal assistance before the June 10 deadline. Assistance may include FEMA aid, unemployment assistance, and low-interest SBA loans.

Residents and businesses affected by the historic flooding are urged to apply for FEMA aid as millions have already been distributed across Washington.

This report confirms exactly what I was afraid we’d find when I started calling for an audit all the way back in 2023. These programs can’t just be left to operate on their honor – they need oversight and regular scrutiny to ensure taxpayer dollars actually reach the people they are intended to help.

King County’s Office of the Ombuds has released a review that found nearly $700k in questionable costs tied to youth diversion and community-based programs.

During National Police Week, we honor the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

We remember their service, stand with their families, and thank the officers who continue to serve and protect our communities every day.
