Today a prescribed fire operation is happening in the area of the 13,000 block of Green Valley Road.
The approximately 8 acre prescribed burn is being conducted by All Hands Ecology in coordination with CAL FIRE and Graton Fire Protection District.
The project is intended to reduce hazardous forest fuels and help establish a fuel break to improve wildfire resiliency and reduce fire risk heading into the 2026 fire season.
Residents in the area may see smoke and fire personnel throughout the operation. All burning activities will be dependent on favorable weather and environmental conditions.
Thank you to all agencies, organizations, and community partners involved in helping improve wildfire preparedness in our region.

The Graton Fire Protection District along with multiple surrounding fire agencies will be conducting a prescribed burn on Saturday June 6th in the area of Green Valley Road and Maddocks Road. This prescribed burn is essential in order to reduce fuel in the area creating a fire break and provide firefighters with valuable training under real life conditions as preparation for the 2026 fire season. Please see the attached information release for additional details. Please also note smoke will be visible during the burn and burning will not take place if conditions are not favorable before the burn is planned to take place as well as at any time during the burn.

Citation: Inappropriate charging attempt by a Tesla.

Okay, so we don’t issue citations, but if we did… we would remind this driver not to accelerate too fast when sneaking between on-coming cars while turning from Guerneville Road on to Olivet Road. Fortunately, only the Tesla was involved and the driver suffered minor injuries. He apologizes for anyone who got caught in the traffic delays he caused.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to our community for the support shown at our 75th annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser! The event was a huge success and we couldn’t be more grateful to have a supportive community behind us!

Right after the event, crews went back to work responding to multiple trees down and wind storm related calls, including a roadside vegetation fire. With our career and volunteer staff, Graton Fire had 5 total engines and support vehicles handling calls all at the same time throughout our district.

Three members from Graton Fire Protection District recently completed the Motorized Watercraft Rescue Technician course with Intrepid Maritime.

The course focused on boat handling, risk assessment, and operating in dynamic water environments through a mix of classroom work and hands-on scenarios.

With a department boat in service, this type of training ensures our personnel are prepared to use it safely and effectively when it matters.

We received this very thoughtful and unique thank you card from Graton residents after their generator caught fire late Christmas Eve/Christmas morning. This was during our multi-day power outage following the major storm on December 23/24.

THE NIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS EVE

‘Twas the night after Christmas Eve
House surrounded by fog
Not a creature was stirring
Not even a dog

The stockings were emptied
The food was all et
Adults in the house
Had all gone to bed

When out on the lawn
There arose such a clatter
The generator belching and starting to chatter
Jack went into the night
To see what was the matter

Away to the window I flew like a flash.
Tore open the window and threw up the sash.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a generator aflame
And no water near

Away to the phone then to dial 911
And wait with impatience
Till the firemen did come

The men they arrived
With helmets with hazmat
Armed with long hoses
(And whatever rhymes with hazmat)

They leapt though the bushes
With hoses all ready
And put out the flames
With hands that were steady

Then rain did pour upon us
With Donner and Blitzen ***
But no Dancer or Prancer
Or Comet or Vixen

The men sprang to their trucks
Then gave a us a whistle
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle
But I heard them exclaim as they drove out of sight
Happy day after Christmas
And to all a good night

*** Donner and Blitz are German for thunder and lightning
