Hey Sebastopol! Please join us Monday morning from 9 AM to 11 AM at Taylor Lane Coffee in The Barlow for a meet and greet with the Chief and the Sonoma County Department of Health Services Director regarding the homeless outreach worker who has been working out of the police department since early this year. You'll have an opportunity to meet Julian Sanchez and ask questions about how the program is going. We hope to see you there!

📣 SEBASTOPOL RESIDENTS: Early this year, the Department of Health Services placed a homeless outreach worker in Sebastopol to work with the town’s unsheltered population and help get them connected to services 🤝🏽🏡

Want to ask the police chief 👮 and county health services director 🏥 how the program’s going? Stop by the scheduled meet-and-greet this coming Monday, May 18, from 9–11am ⏰ at Taylor Lane Organic Coffee ☕ in the Barlow.

Residents from and around the city are invited to drop in, meet Sebastopol’s outreach worker Julian Sanchez 👋, and learn more about the program and the progress that’s being made 📈✨

Hope to see you there! 😊

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

So far in 2026, 48 officers have died in the line of duty.  This week especially, we remember and honor those who have given their lives serving our communities.  We're so thankful for all our partner law enforcement agencies in Sonoma County.  Stay safe, brothers and sisters!

Sebastopol Police Department is aware a fraudulent email appearing to be associated with the Sebastopol Planning Department is in circulation. The email includes an illegitimate invoice containing Sebastopol’s city logo and instructions to wire money to the suspects.

Don’t fall for the scam! The Planning Department does not email invoices, and they do not seek payment via wire transfers. If you received what you suspect to be a fraudulent email from someone impersonating the Sebastopol Planning Department, especially if you sent money, please notify the police department by calling us at (707) 829-4400.

🚲 Bike to School Day - May 6th 🚲

Today, students across Sebastopol participated in Sonoma County’s Bike to School Day, promoting healthy habits, safety, and a fun way to get to school! We were glad to see participation from Brook Haven Middle School, Park Side Elementary, Sebastopol Independent Charter School, and Sunridge.

Chief McDonagh enjoyed riding one of our police bikes and spending time with students this morning, like Tyler who is pictured below with the chief. It’s always great to see our community out and active.

🚴‍♂️ Bike Safety Reminder:
Whether you’re riding to school or around town, remember to:

1. Wear a helmet
2. Stay alert and avoid distractions
3. Follow traffic laws and signals
4. Be visible to drivers

And while today was all about fun, we couldn’t resist a little staged photo moment. No Chiefs were harmed in the making of this picture! 😄 Just a friendly reminder to stay focused, keep your eyes on the road, and hands on the handlebars.

A big thank you to our public safety partners at Gold Ridge Firefighters for being great sports and helping us deliver an important (and slightly humorous) safety message.

Stay safe, Sebastopol!
