Vote NO in November on eliminating property taxes!

A majority of your local governments are funded through property taxes. This bill would gut all your local services. There is no plan in this bill to offset the lost revenue. The only foreseeable options are:

1. Do major cuts to local services and infrastructure

2. Raise the sales tax. Which will burden us with even more inflation than we already have.

3. Raise taxes on local businesses. Maybe the major chains can handle eat, but smaller mom and pop shops will suffer.

4. Rely on state funding to keep going. Which means Highlands will no longer be allowed to govern ourselves. Tallahassee will make all the decision us.

Florida voters will decide in November whether to dramatically expand homestead property tax exemptions after lawmakers approved a constitutional amendment.

Join us for pancake breakfast at HQ this Saturday, June 6th (between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM). Proceeds are to benefit local candidates.

We currently have 2 DWC members running for office.

Savannah Casto is running for School Board, District 5. She's the only Democrat running (although it's a "non-partisan" race). One of her opponents has ties to charter schools, which courtesy of Florida's voucher program, have diverted tens/hundreds of millions of dollars from our public schools. The other candidate (who just announced this past weekend is Andy Tuck.
Savannah's campaign needs to raise $1700 just to get her name on the ballot. Please help if you can.

Leigh Estes who spoke briefly at our last DWC meeting is running for FL state legislature. She has just launched her campaign and could use our support.

No Kings 4 Protest and Concert Watch Party

The 4th National No Kings Protest has been rescheduled from July 4th to Sunday June 14. It will be followed that night by a 90 minute concert in NY City which will be live streamed.


Because the Protest is being held on a Sunday, we will be holding our protest from 5:30 to 7 PM (at the usual place, intersection of US HWY 27 N and Sebring Pkwy/Schumacher Rd). Afterwards we will host a concert “Watch Party” at Democratic Party Headquarters from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served.

Please join us for either or both the Protest and Watch Party.
