As wildfire season continues, one of our Jackson 105 Fire Protection District members has already supported wildfire response on two interagency assignments, both close to home and across the West.

Her first assignment was with the Pike National Forest’s South Platte Ranger District, serving as a Fire Prevention Patrol. In that role, she educated visitors about wildfire prevention, answered questions, monitored recreation areas, and helped reduce the risk of human-caused fires by scouting out and removing more than 20 improperly located fire rings.

She was then assigned as a Public Information Officer (PIO) on the 95,000+ acre Cottonwood Fire in southern Utah. As a PIO, she helped keep residents informed, coordinated with local officials, supported community meetings throughout the incident, escorted media into the fire area, and even helped launch a weather balloon! 🎈☁️

On both assignments, Ashley worked alongside local, state, and federal partners, gaining experience in interagency cooperation and large incident response. Those relationships and lessons learned strengthen Jackson 105’s ability to serve our community when wildfire impacts occur closer to home.

FIRE RESTRICTION UPDATE: STAGE 2 NOW IN EFFECT

Because it is hot and dry, fuel moisture levels are extremely low, and high fire danger across the state is putting a massive strain on our emergency responders, Douglas County has officially elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2 for all of unincorporated Douglas County, including Larkspur and Castle Pines.

We understand that moving to Stage 2 right before the 4th of July is incredibly difficult, especially since we all look forward to celebrating this holiday together. However, our first responders have already responded to multiple fires in recent days ignited by fireworks. With multiple wildfires burning across Colorado, our absolute priority must be keeping your families, your homes, and our personnel safe.

Please look out for each other and celebrate responsibly. Compliance with these restrictions is mandatory.

🚫 STRICTLY PROHIBITED:
• Open burning of any kind
• All fireworks (including professional displays)
• Chimineas, portable fireplaces, or patio fire pits
• Campfires at developed campgrounds or picnic areas
• Model rockets

✅ PERMITTED (Under strict guidelines):
• Liquid or gas-fueled stoves, grills, and appliances
• Actively supervised residential charcoal grills (supervised by someone 18+)
• Fires inside permanent fireplaces/wood stoves inside permanent buildings only

Update as of 7pm: the evacuation warning has been lifted.

Happening now:

A wildfire is currently burning near Jackson Creek Road and Rampart Range Road.

An evacuation warning has been issued for a 3-mile radius around the fire, including the Devils Head Recreation Area.

An evacuation warning means there is a potential threat to life and property. Anyone who may need extra time to evacuate, as well as those with pets or livestock, should consider leaving now.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert, avoid the area, and be prepared to leave if conditions worsen. Keep essential items accessible, have an evacuation plan ready, and continue monitoring official sources for updates.

Fire crews are actively working to contain the fire. The Douglas County firefighting helicopter is on scene and is dropping water.

Road closures are in place at South Platte River Road and South County Highway 67/Sugar Creek Road.

Effective immediately, all fire restrictions in unincorporated Douglas County have been lifted by order of Sheriff Darren Weekly.

Although recent moisture has helped reduce fire risk, residents and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant. Fire danger is always present, and everyone should continue to use caution when conducting activities that could spark a fire.

Jackson 105 would like to congratulate Firefighter Tiernan Fackler on his promotion from Volunteer. Firefighter Fackler attended academy through Jackson last year. He says “engaging with the community when they are in need and being able to provide a helping hand” has been the best part of his career in the Fire Service so far. When he’s not helping our community, Fackler enjoys rock climbing, kayaking, skiing/snowboarding, really anything outdoors. We appreciate everything Fackler has done for us & look forward to having him as a part of our Jackson family!🚨🔥

🪵New Slash Location🪵

Sedalia now has its very own slash location opening April 3rd! For the first few weeks, 5675 Delva Way will be open from 7am to 5pm Saturday & Sunday then will resume the usual Saturday only schedule. Please click the attached link below for additional information. This is an excellent resource to get rid of any pine needles, leaves, and branches. We’re all a little nervous about what these temps mean for fire weather this summer, let’s be proactive in our community and eliminate as much fuel around our homes as we can.
