Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation is a non-profit organization that is committed to preserving the natural environment, enhancing cultural life in Colorado, and providing educational opportunities devoted to western heritage, wildlife and the arts. Cherokee Ranch & Castle includes land that originally belonged to two separate homesteads in the late 1890s: the Flower Homestead and the Blunt Homest

ead. The Johnson Family moved from the East and purchased the Flower Homestead in 1924 and built the 1450s Scottish-style Castle. Tweet purchased adjacent land that had been the Blunt Homestead and renamed both pieces of land Cherokee Ranch, which today includes 3,100 acres of natural beauty and wildlife. In 1996, Tweet worked with Douglas County to protect Cherokee Ranch through a Conservation Easement. The Foundation holds the deed to Cherokee Ranch which serves as a Cultural and Educational Hub. Cherokee Ranch & Castle provides a wide variety of programs including: Educational Castle Tours and Afternoon Teas, and a wide variety of K-12 and Adult Educational Programs focusing on, for example, Culture and the Arts, Environmental Science, Colorado and Western History and Heritage, Wildlife, Ranching, etc. We are open to the public by reservations or appointment only.

On the evening of Friday, May 29, 2026, we celebrated a remarkable milestone with the official opening of the Miranda Club and the restored historic Picnic House at Cherokee Ranch & Castle.

The evening brought together the founding members whose generosity, vision, and commitment helped make this restoration possible. Surrounded by the beauty of the ranch, guests enjoyed an unforgettable gathering that honored both the history of this special place and its bright future.

As the sun began to set, Scott Beach, the Colorado Bagpiper, welcomed guests with the stirring sound of bagpipes across the landscape, creating a truly memorable opening to the evening. Smoky Trail Barbecue provided a wonderful meal as friends and supporters gathered to celebrate this achievement together.

What began as an idea, and then a shared vision, is now a reality. The restored Picnic House stands as a testament to the power of preservation, stewardship, and community. Thanks to the support of our founding members, this historic gathering place will continue to create meaningful experiences for generations to come.

We are also pleased to share that the Picnic House is now available to rent for private gatherings, celebrations, and special events. We look forward to welcoming guests to experience this unique historic setting and the beauty of Cherokee Ranch & Castle.

To our founding members and supporters, thank you for helping launch this next chapter. Your investment in the Miranda Club and Cherokee Ranch & Castle is preserving history while creating new opportunities for connection and community.

Yesterday, Cherokee Ranch & Castle had the pleasure of welcoming Tracy, Tweet's only granddaughter, and her family. Visits from Tweet's family are always a cherished experience, and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with them.

As the daughter of Kirk Kimball, Tracy's children, Shaylene and Isaiah, hold the special distinction of being Tweet's only great-grandchildren.

The return of successive generations of the family to Cherokee serves as a meaningful reminder of the enduring legacy and love that are woven into the fabric of this remarkable place.

Thank you, Tracy, Isaiah, Shalene, Isaiah Jr., and Jason for your visit. We always appreciate having you at Cherokee and look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Patrick Wedlake for all of the time, energy, and care he has shared with Cherokee Ranch & Castle during his visit back to Colorado these past two months.

Patrick, a former Cherokee volunteer, jumped right back into ranch life alongside John McKinney, one of our longtime volunteers and leader of our outdoor team. From helping with hikes and outdoor training to handling signs and even keeping the hummingbird feeders full, Patrick’s support has meant so much to all of us.

As his Colorado visit comes to an end, we want to thank Patrick for continuing to be part of the Cherokee family no matter where life takes him. Safe travels, Patrick, and we hope to see you back at the Ranch again soon!

Yesterday’s crystal-clear Colorado skies gave us a breathtaking view of Devil’s Head from the Castle grounds. Known by many locals as the “Sleeping Indian,” this iconic silhouette is one of the remarkable mountain ranges visible from Cherokee Ranch & Castle.

Moments like these make us pause and appreciate the timeless landscape that has inspired visitors for generations, with its sweeping Front Range vistas, rich history, and connection to Colorado’s natural beauty.

Have you ever spotted the “Sleeping Indian” from the Castle? Share your favorite mountain views with us in the comments!

Another special wildlife moment captured at Cherokee Ranch.

These incredible photos capture the beauty of a bear peacefully exploring the property near the Picnic House. Moments like these are a wonderful reminder of the natural habitat and wildlife that make Cherokee Ranch so special.

Watching a bear move peacefully through its natural habitat was both exciting and unforgettable.

Many thanks to CRCF Board members Sue LaPierre and Patti Hostetler for sharing these beautiful photographs.

A lasting symbol of legacy now marks the heart of the Picnic House.

This week, Rafael Miranda carefully burned the TKR brand into the fireplace mantle at the Picnic House, a meaningful milestone as we near completion of the restoration project in preparation for the opening of the Miranda Club.

Representing Tweet Kimball’s legacy, the TKR brand now holds a permanent place within the Picnic House, honoring the history, spirit, and stewardship that continue to define Cherokee Ranch & Castle.

What began as an idea, and then a shared vision, is now becoming something tangible. Each restored detail reflects a commitment to preserving the beauty, craftsmanship, and enduring legacy of this remarkable place for generations to come.

As restoration work continues across the property, so does our dedication to thoughtful stewardship and historic preservation. Seeing the TKR brand become part of the Picnic House is more than a finishing touch, it symbolizes heritage, community, and the exciting next chapter ahead.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We look forward to sharing more soon.

❤️ A Hidden Heart Inside Cherokee Ranch & Castle ❤️

As Cherokee Ranch & Castle celebrates its 100th year, we’re sharing one of the castle’s lesser-known details hidden within the Great Hall.

Set into the stone wall is a beautiful light red stone heart, a feature many visitors have passed by for decades without ever noticing.

After nearly a century, the castle still holds surprises within its walls, each one adding to the character, craftsmanship, and history that make Cherokee so special.

Next time you visit the Great Hall, take a closer look… you just might spot the heart for yourself.
