Secondary Division-Marshall Public Schools This page will feature information from Marshall High School and Bueker Middle School. Bueker Middle School is located at 565 South Odell and houses grades 6-8.

Marshall High School is located at 805 South Miami and houses grades 9-12. The first school was built in 1849-50 for $250 on South Odell. Controversy existed into the 1870’s over whether elementary education was a function of the church or state. The court house burned during the Civil War in 1864, so there is very little factual school information that exists before this time. In 1881, Benton Sch

ool was the first school where students 1st through 8th grade attended. There were a few high school classes offered as well.

Last week, our eighth grade ELA students kicked off their first unit, Mapping Identity: The Places That Shape Us, by doing a little exploring right here at BMS.

With our librarian, Sarah Otto, leading the way, students toured the building and thought about how the places around us help shape our stories, experiences, and identities.

We love seeing collaboration like this at BMS. Our eighth grade ELA teachers and librarian worked together to create a meaningful experience that brought learning outside the classroom and gave students a great start to their first unit of the year. ❤️🦉

Bueker Middle School SRO Joey Valiquette spent time today with some of his friends talking to them about the role of a sheriff deputy and the duties of being a school resource officer with Bueker Middle School. During his visit he answered questions from the students and also provided them with their very own sheriff's badge to wear for the day!

BMS Heat Update:

BMS Families and Community,

As we continue to work through this week’s extreme heat, I want to reassure our staff, students, families, and community that we are doing everything we can to keep everyone not only as comfortable as possible, but safe.

We are continuing to monitor temperatures throughout the building and make adjustments as new concerns arise. We have moved several classrooms to cooler spaces, added more fans, and have HVAC professionals on site working on areas of concern. When a new problem pops up, we are doing our best to find a solution and adjust.

One change that has made a noticeable difference is keeping our kitchen ovens off. We know everyone would prefer a hot lunch, but minimizing oven use has had a significant positive impact on the temperature in our kitchen and cafeteria. Our kitchen staff is continuing to work on menu options that allow us to keep the ovens off as much as possible this week. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility with these temporary changes.

Tomorrow’s lunch options will be:
• Spicy Chicken Patty on a Bun
• PB&J with a Cheese Stick
• Italian Sub

Our staff has also been encouraged to dress for the weather this week, including wearing shorts and more relaxed attire. We want everyone to make reasonable choices that help them stay cool and comfortable.

We know it is hot. We know some areas of our building are hotter than others. And we know that moving classrooms, changing menus, adding fans, and adjusting routines does not fix the bigger problem. What we can do is continue to pay attention, respond when concerns arise, and make every adjustment available to us.

I am incredibly proud of our students and staff. They have been flexible, patient, and willing to roll with changes as we work through this. Our kitchen, custodial, maintenance, teaching, and support staff have also been working hard behind the scenes to take care of our building and, more importantly, the people in it.

We will keep monitoring, adjusting, and problem-solving. Above all, please know we are doing our absolute best to take care of our kids and our staff. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to us. We want to hear from you and will do our best to address concerns as they arise.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued support of Team Bueker!

Seguiremos monitoreando, ajustando y resolviendo problemas.

BMS Families,

Due to the extreme heat expected next week, we will be making a few adjustments to our school lunch menu. Our kitchen and cafeteria can become especially warm when the ovens are running, so we are prioritizing the health and comfort of both our kitchen staff and students by minimizing oven use on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Monday’s lunch options will be:
• Turkey & Cheese Sandwich
• Chicken Salad on a Croissant
• Popcorn Chicken Salad (breaded chicken served on a bed of lettuce)

Additional menu adjustments for Tuesday and Wednesday will be shared as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we take care of our students and the people who take such great care of our students each day.
