On 8-24-2026 Sedan Fire crews spent the afternoon assisting with the Rabbit Ear East Fire. Crews spent the afternoon along with air support, hand crews and multiple other agencies from the area and across the state working to contain the fire. Crews were released later that evening to rehab, refuel and returned to the station.

On August 15, Sedan Fire hosted a CPR class presented by Clayton Fire Rescue. It was a great evening of training, with family members participating and learning valuable lifesaving skills.

We were also glad to have Texline Fire join us for this joint training opportunity. We appreciate Clayton Fire Rescue for providing the instruction and everyone who took the time to participate!

Training together makes all of our communities stronger.

On Sunday August 9, 2026 Sedan Fire Department was dispatched at 20:06 for a grass fire on the Thomas Hwy. While attempting to locate the fire Sedan Fire was dispatched at 20:30 to a second fire in the area of the Zurich Ranch. Crews responded to both incidents. It was soon determined that the first fire had been put out by the rain. Crews from the fire on the Thomas Hwy then responded to the Zurich Ranch as well as to assist Rabbit Ears Fire Department with a grass fire on Campsey Rd. All of the incidents were able to be contained and Sedan Fire crews were able to return to quarters after a couple hours.

🚒 Sedan Fire Department Mutual Aid Response

On August 6, 2026, at 15:45 PM, Sedan Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid with Texline Fire Department to Stewart Lane and Highway 87 for a hay fire.

Sedan Fire personnel responded and assisted Texline Fire with water shuttling and fire suppression operations. Crews worked alongside Texline firefighters to help contain the fire and protect the surrounding area.

All Sedan Fire Department units and personnel cleared the scene and returned to quarters at approximately 22:59 PM.

On July 28, 2026, at 13:42 the Sedan Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire north of NM Highway 102. Upon arrival, crews found the fire burning in rugged terrain with heavy cedar growth, creating challenging conditions for suppression efforts.

Firefighters spent the afternoon and well into the evening working to contain the fire, extinguish hotspots, and prevent any further spread. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of all personnel on scene, the fire was successfully brought under control.

After returning to the station, crews continued their efforts by spending several hours repairing equipment, servicing apparatus, and preparing trucks for the next emergency response.

The Sedan Fire Department would like to thank all responding personnel for their commitment and hard work, as well as our community for their continued support. Our volunteers remain ready to answer the call whenever needed.

On the afternoon of 7/25/2026 Sedan Fire Department along with Wheelis/Mexhoma Fire Department was requested for mutual aid with Rabbit Ear Fire District to Hwy 406 mile marker 20 for a grass fire with some outbuildings and wood corrals on fire. Sedan Fire responded with 3 units and assisted Rabbit Ear Fire with the incident. All Sedan Fire units were back in quarters at 19:49

Incident Response – Grass Fire

On July 22, 2026, at 12:32 a.m., the Sedan Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Highway 102 and Telephone Road for a reported grass fire.

Sedan Fire responded to provide mutual aid to Dalhart Fire Department, with the Texline Fire Department also assisting. Crews from all three departments worked together through the early morning hours to contain and extinguish the fire.

On 7-9-2026 at 16:46 Sedan Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire started by a lightning strike on McAdams Rd off of Hwy 102. The rain helped put the fire out and the arriving units finished mopping up before being released and returning to quarters.
