The Sedona Fire District is honored to have received one of the last remaining artifacts from the World Trade Center. This project is designed as a community effort to place this artifact in a prominent location in Sedona for all of us to remember the events of 9/11/2001. The 5½-foot, 3,000-pound piece of steel is believed to be from the 20th floor of one of the towers. It is our goal to fund this project by private and corporate donations. We are asking for your participation in this historic endeavor. 100% of your generous tax deductible donation will be used to build a beautiful memorial paying tribute to the men, women, and children who lost their lives on that fateful day of September 11, 2001.

Sedona Fire

As September 10, 2019 comes to a close, we prepare to honor those whose lives were lost or forever changed 18 years ago tomorrow. For many of us, we sat in the fire station(s) watching in disbelief, as a number of our fellow Brother/Sister Firefighters, Police Officers, Port Authority officials and civilians were killed during the attacks on 9/11/2001.

We ask that you please join us and take a moment to remember those that sacrificed everything, trying to make a difference during the events that unfolded that day. We will be honoring these heroes tomorrow morning at Station #6, off of Highway 179 near the Chapel. The ceremony will begin at 08:40 am.

Pictured here, is the permanent 9/11 memorial located at Station #6. Included, as part of this permanent memorial, is an actual piece of steel from Ground Zero.

Thank You

We welcome Erin Cummo and her son as our first public visitors at the SFD 9/11 Memorial! While it won't be officially opened until this coming 9/11 they were so interested in our project that they wanted to stop in to say hello. We encourage everyone in Sedona to stop in to visit as we finish up the last few details in preparation for the unveiling.

The Cummos are new transplants to Sedona coming all the way from Seldon, Long Island, New York.

We hope to see the Cummos and everyone else in town on 9/11/16 at Station 6 at 12 Noon for the dedication.

Well we're 59 days away to 9/11/16 and our dedication. We've made more progress this week. Notice that the contractor has polished the concrete areas that will be showing after the installation of the artifact and information plaques.

It's hoped that DeTar Construction can pour concrete for the sidewalk sometime next week.

I'll keep you posted.

The concrete forms are removed and now it's starting to look like something special. Those two hard working guys in the second photo are painstakingly grinding all of the concrete to a mirror finish. This is done with small hand power grinders! Talk about hard workers.

Sedona Fire District Announces
Fundraising Goal Achieved for 9/11 Memorial
SEDONA – (June 28, 2016) – The Sedona Fire District (SFD) gratefully announces the end of formal fundraising for the 9/11 Memorial.

Due to the tremendous generosity of our community and donors from around the country, the commitments and funds already received have allowed us to exceed our goal to fund the Memorial. Any future donations received will be used for project enhancements, such as landscaping, signage, dedication ceremony, etc. Donations of $911 or more will be recognized on a donor plaque at the site, and the cut-off date for any further donor recognition is Friday, July 15th, 2016.

The goal of the SFD 9/11 Memorial Committee was to fund this project by private and corporate donations without burdening taxpayers for additional costs; as that has now been achieved, SFD has been fully reimbursed for all hard costs it incurred on the architectural design, advertising, and supplies.

The centerpiece of the SFD 9/11 Memorial is a 5½-foot, 3,000-pound piece of steel from what is believed to be the 20th Floor of one of the “Twin Towers” of the former World Trade Center in New York City. This permanent memorial will honor the 2,996 lives that were lost during the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 including 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers.

SFD Fire Chief Kris Kazian states “The SFD 9/11 Memorial Committee did an incredible job to make sure the Memorial is a respectful and noble place here in Sedona to contemplate the events of September 11th, 2001. The whole community came together to sponsor this worthy cause”.

A community event is being planned for the dedication ceremony of the Memorial after completion of construction, and is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, September 11th, 2016; the exact time is yet to be determined and will be held at the Memorial located at SFD Fire Station #6, 2675 State Route 179 near Chapel Road. Some VERY exciting news, last week we received our biggest donation to date: $5000 from the Gary Sinise Foundation.

You may remember Gary as Lt Dan from the movie Forest Gump or as Mac Taylor from CSI Miami and NY. Most recently in the Criminal Minds franchise as Agent Jack Garrett.

Sinise is a supporter of various veterans' organizations, both personally and through the Lt. Dan Band. He frequently performs on USO tours at military bases around the world, and volunteered for the National Vietnam Veterans Arts Museum now called the National Veterans Art Museum. Gary is also a very big supporter of 9/11 events around the country.

For those of you who wish to donate to the SFD 9/11 please call; 928-282-6800.
