Join Skagit County and the City of Mount Vernon for a Seniors Townhall on Monday, April 27th, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Library Commons!

The townhall will feature a moderated panel with representatives from the Skagit County Commissioners, City of Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon City Council, Northwest Regional Council, and Skagit Council on Aging. The panel will answer questions regarding senior services funding, the future of the Mount Vernon senior center facility, and the upcoming transition of the senior nutrition program starting July 1, 2026.

Interested citizens may submit questions for the panel by email to [email protected] or to [email protected]. Written questions may also be dropped off to the front desk of the Mount Vernon Senior Center. Questions must be submitted by Friday, April 24th, at 4:00 p.m.

This event is free and open to anyone who would like to join. We look forward to seeing you all there!

🇺🇸Are you looking for a meaningful way to honor a veteran in your life? Skagit County Veterans Community Plaza offers just that.

It all started in 2016, when the Board of County Commissioners designated 1.2 acres of parkland in honor of Skagit County veterans, creating what is now the Veterans Community Plaza. With the help of the Sedro-Woolley Rotary, local veterans, and volunteers, the vision quickly came to life. That same year, the shelter was dedicated to U.S. Air Corps Veteran Vern Sims.

Today, it stands as a place for our community to reflect and honor those who served, and you can honor your veteran by purchasing a Veterans Recognition Name Plate for $50.

These 2” by 6” stainless steel plaques are engraved and permanently mounted within the plaza, creating a lasting tribute for generations.

Our volunteer Joe Sanford surprised his brother Gary Sanford with a plaque placed beside their father’s.

The senior center is giving away surplus chairs. Thirty chairs are available in total, with some having slight wear on the upholstery. You're welcome to take one or multiple chairs.
