Welcome to the Edna Martin House, a historic home nestled in Seekonk, Massachusetts, brimming with the legacy of painter and printmaker Edna M. Martin. Born on March 1, 1896, in Seekonk, Martin's artistic journey began at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she honed her craft under the guidance of esteemed printmaker Eliza Gardiner.

Imbued with a passion for both art and education, Martin embarked on a career that seamlessly intertwined her love for teaching and her artistic pursuits. After a brief stint as a weekend instructor at RISD, she found her calling at the Lincoln School, where she dedicated herself to shaping the minds of young women while nurturing her creative spirit.

The late 1920s and early 1930s marked a period of prolific creativity for Martin, as she drew inspiration from her adventures as an avid outdoorswoman, exploring landscapes near and far. Her artwork, ranging from delicate etchings capturing the realism of nature to whimsical woodcuts infused with humor, reflects her deep connection to the world around her.

A proud member of the Providence Art Club and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, Martin's contributions to the artistic community endure, even as she shifted her focus to teaching and nurturing future generations of artists.

Today, the Edna Martin House stands as a testament to her enduring legacy, offering guests a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich history and natural beauty of Seekonk, Massachusetts. Paired with the adjacent historic Old Grist Mill Tavern and our neighbors, the Four Echoes Vintage & Ice Cream Shoppe, visitors can experience the charm of yesteryear while reveling in modern comforts. Together, these historic landmarks invite guests to indulge in art, history, delectable treats, and the tranquil ambiance of Seekonk's storied past.
