Seguin LULAC Community Garden

Seguin LULAC Community Garden A community garden in Seguin, Texas that promotes community involvement and resource conservation, and that provides nutritious food.

The Seguin LULAC Foundation community garden is located at 1502 Eighth St. Seguin, TX 78155 and was created to promote resource conservation and sustainability. The garden also demonstrates the farm-to-table concept by making fresh and locally grown fruits and vegetables available to the local neighborhood and community. In order to ensure there are fresh vegetables and fruits to harvest we would

love the community support to help LULAC Foundation with maintenance, planting and other important tasks. This page was created to inform Seguin locals about the garden, to let them know that it is there for you, that we want you to not only enjoy the products of the garden, but to become involved in your community and work with your neighbors to help this garden thrive. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Dalton Sasser, LULAC Foundation President, at [email protected].

Thank you to Seguin LULAC Foundation Board of Director Vice President, Felix Moreno, for helping to keep the w**ds at bay. We put out a call a few weeks back for aggressive help from the Board of Directors and Felix came willing, able, took care of the job. W**ding is a consistent job during peak season, so every bit of help is appreciated.

This past Saturday 2 of our steadfast volunteers put in some hard work. Juan Marcus and Le’anne cleared some green bean rows, harvested some, planted zucchini and worked on the water lines. Several visitors went out to collect corn leaves for tamales. There is still more green beans to harvest but you’ll have to pick around the pig w**d and the other w**ds. This means bring a pair of gloves.

Weather forecast has rain incoming on Thursday which looks like to last 6-7 more days. We could sure use lots of extra hands anytime this week to help w**d the rows that haven’t been touched and/or help us maintain the ones we have. There is a volunteer work day slated for Wednesday, May 20 6pm to sundown. Come help us maintain the garden that helps feed our elders, people in need, and the surrounding community. If you want to learn more about opportunities to help email us at [email protected]

Summer Volunteer Work Days are here! The Seguin LULAC Foundation Community Garden has fed thousands of people over the past 10+ years and we continue to receive messages on how you can be part of the volunteers who help sustain the garden weekly.

Wednesdays and Saturdays are our volunteer work days when Seguin LULAC Foundation Board of Directors and seasoned volunteers are in the garden. Those working in the garden are very knowledgable and can help answer questions you may have about your own garden.

Always on our task lists are the following:
-W**d maintenance
-Plant rest of starters
-Plant okra into ground
-Once items are ready for harvesting we will put that information on this page
-There are rogue radishes ready for harvesting and dinosaur kale

Since summer is around the corner we know that you have children who you would like to complete volunteer hours. If you bring your children to volunteer or to harvest we ask that you, the parent/guardian, stay with them the entire time. No children can be left unsupervised at the Seguin LULAC Foundation Community Garden and we will also ask you to fill out Volunteer Liability Waiver.

If you have further questions about volunteering, please email us [email protected].

We've been monitoring the Seguin LULAC Foundation Community with all the rain. We WILL continue our Saturday Community Garden Volunteer Day beginning at 9AM. There is a ton of work to be done but most of all we need to focus on routine w**d management. Other items include:

-Succession Planting and Observation

It took one of our Board of Directors 2 hours to w**d one single row. We would like to have at least 15-20 volunteers on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

We are recommending you wear boots, long sleeves, bring gloves, and wear lots of bug spray. This is of course due to the recent rains. Seguin LULAC Foundation Community Garden Volunteer, Le'ann Gutierrez, will be your point of contact on Saturday.

Thank you!

What a blessing the rain has been for the last couple of days. On Saturday we had a small but mighty group of Seguin LULAC Foundation Board of Directors work at the garden before the heavens opened and rain started coming down. Crops are coming in nicely and as soon as items are ready for harvesting we will let the community know via this page.

Thank you Dalton Sasser, Foundation President, Alejandro Guerra, Foundation Treasurer, and Juan Marcos Moncada, Foundation Board of Director. We will be announcing work days for the upcoming weeks very shortly. Also most helpful is to help keep all the w**ds at bay by stopping by to pull them. This does not require for us to be there. More details about w**ding soon so you can stop at anytime to help.
