The past few weeks have been extra busy. On top of our normal calls and duties, we were privileged enough to host almost 250 second grade students from John Campbell Elementary in EDITH (Exit Drills In The Home) house, and fire education.
Then 350 pre-k and kindergarten students from Robert Lince Early Learning Center joined for some fire education. These classes includes what to do if your house catches on fire, the importance of working smoke detectors, having a plan with those you live with on where to meet, and calling 911. We also had almost 250 parents volunteer to help the teachers with these field trips. All of the students got to try on some firefighting gear and sprayed some water from a fire hose. Between the students from the schools, the homeschool groups, and the parent volunteers we hosted almost 850 people the past few weeks.
On top of this Selah Intermediate School held their annual career day which we normally attend. Unfortunately, due to our busy schedule with classes we were unable to make it work this year. a huge thank you to Federal Firefighters of Yakima IAFF Local F-295 of Yakima Training Center Fire Department for stepping in to fill our shoes in this event.
We also want to extend our gratitude to Suncomm 911 Communications Yakima for sending dispatchers out to help with teaching classes, Selah School District for allowing these invaluable field trips, and last but certainly not least all of the parents that trust us to help in the education process of their children, it really does take a village.
