Last night, members of Truck 1, along with personnel from several other companies, participated in a hands-on drill focused on non-traditional vehicle extrication techniques.

The objective was to utilize tools and equipment not specifically designed for vehicle extrication to begin rescue operations until specialized equipment could arrive on scene. This training challenged participants to think outside the box, adapt to changing conditions, and develop creative solutions under pressure.

Training like this reinforces the importance of resourcefulness, teamwork, and problem-solving skills when seconds matter most.

The Selden Fire Department is pleased to announce the winners of the Clear the Hydrant Contest after the recent Blizzard of ’26.

The winners are Kerry Oc, Amanda DeJesus and Finnegan who each won a gift certificate to Texas Roadhouse.

Honorable Mention goes to Linda Hesselbarth and Rose Gaffney who won Texas Roadhouse gift buckets.

The Chiefs, Officers and members of the Selden Fire Department would like to thank everyone who participated in this amazing event. Hopefully everyone learned the importance of community service while providing valuable service to the community by clearing fire hydrants of snow. Thank you to Texas Roadhouse for their support.

Selden Fire Department Urges Residents to Practice Winter Safety Ahead of Upcoming Snowstorm

The Selden Fire Department is urging all residents to take precautions as a significant winter snowstorm is forecasted to impact our area this weekend. Snow, ice, and winds can create dangerous conditions for both motorists and pedestrians, as well as increased risks inside the home.

Residents are reminded to limit travel during the storm whenever possible. If travel is necessary, drive slowly, allow extra stopping distance, and keep an emergency kit in your vehicle that includes blankets, a flashlight, food, water, and a charged cell phone.

Home safety is equally important during winter weather. Ensure heating equipment is in proper working order, keep space heaters at least three feet away from combustible materials, and never use ovens or grills to heat your home. Check that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly, especially when using alternative heat sources.

When shoveling snow, pace yourself and take frequent breaks to avoid overexertion. Push snow when possible rather than lifting, and stay hydrated. Residents should also keep fire hydrants near their homes clear of snow to allow quick access in the event of an emergency.

The Selden Fire Department remains ready to respond throughout the storm. In case of an emergency, dial 911 immediately.

Thank You for Celebrating With Us!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone in our Selden community who joined us for our annual Breakfast with Santa. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, families, and friends come together to kick off the holiday season with smiles, laughter, and plenty of cheer.
