Land Trust 101 with Kachemak Heritage Land Trust (KHLT)

Wednesday, September 23, 2026

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM

Brown Bag Lunch Talk: Join us after Senior Meals, or bring your own brown bag lunch to the library.

Kachemak Heritage Land Trust (KHLT) staff will tell us all about land trusts: What are they? What is private land conservation? What tools do we have to protect Alaska's natural landscapes? How do we best steward our wild lands for fish, wildlife, recreation, and future generations?

KHLT was founded in 1989 as the first land trust in Alaska, one month before the Exxon Valdez oil spill. They serve the entire Kenai Peninsula, and currently monitor over 4,000 acres of private conservation land. They also own and manage over 700 acres of nature preserves. You may be familiar with their trails in Homer at Calvin and Coyle Woodland Park, or the Poopdeck Plat.

Join us to learn more about KHLT and how you can get involved. Bonus: Get your own cute "Baby Salmon Live Here" sticker!

We’ve just added LOTS of new books for kids and young adults! These are all titles that are on the Battle of the Books 26/27 reading list, and we have more on order that are arriving every day. We have set aside all the BoB books on a cart in the children’s section, along with a complete list of this year’s titles.

We had a huge turnout for Friday’s Estate Planning program: about 30 people! Thanks so much for Paul and Lori Maney for putting it all together. Obviously the topic was relevant to our community.
I’m wondering if you’d like to see more of these kinds of events? Maybe it was also good timing so folks could stop by on their lunch break? We could even welcome you to bring a brown bag lunch if that would make it easier to attend. Let me know in the comments or give a thumbs up if you’d be interested. Ideas for topics or presenters also welcome!
