Member Spotlight 💙

Meet Waina, who is serving with Transitions of PA.

As a recent Bucknell University graduate, Waina became increasingly aware of unmet needs within the local community and wanted to be part of the solution.

Growing up in a close-knit immigrant community, she saw firsthand the impact neighbors can have when they support one another during difficult times. Those experiences helped shape her commitment to community service and her belief in the power of investing in and caring for your community.

Waina is beginning her service as a summer AmeriCorps member and will continue with Transitions into a full-year term, where she will help support individuals and families throughout the region.

Welcome to CORE, Emily! We're excited to have you serving at the Milton Public Library! 🎉

Help us welcome Emily to the Milton Public Library team!

Emily is serving with CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps as our Summer Literacy & Community Engagement Coordinator. In this role, she will help with our Summer Reading programs, recruit volunteers, and conduct outreach throughout the community.

Her energy and enthusiasm have already been a joy to have, and we're excited to get to know her even better throughout the summer. Be sure to say hello when you see her at the library!

Member Spotlight!

Meet Joshua, who is serving at the Juniata Valley YMCA

Joshua is a private school teacher who joined AmeriCorps to continue serving his community during the summer months while school is out of session. He is also looking forward to using his Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to help cover the cost of the recertifications needed to maintain his teaching certificate.

The Juniata Valley YMCA is excited to welcome Joshua as their first male AmeriCorps member, where he will help provide a positive role model and strong male presence for the children they serve.

We're excited to have Joshua serving with us this summer!

Yay Kyle! 🎉

SGP had a wonderful time at WellSpan Health's Senior Health & Fitness Day at the The Miller Center for Recreation and Wellness in Lewisburg! 🙌

Our CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps member, Kyle Ehmann, spent the event connecting attendees with outdoor recreation opportunities across the Susquehanna Greenway—from scenic walking spots and birdwatching locations to relaxing riverfront day trips. Interest in peaceful outdoor spaces and accessible nature experiences was strong all morning long.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat, grab resources, and share their favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors! 💚

Meet Brooklyn, who is serving at the Donald Heiter Community Center this summer.

Brooklyn is an Entrepreneurship major at Susquehanna University who was looking for an opportunity to gain new experiences, give back to the community, and further develop her public speaking skills.

We're excited to have Brooklyn serving with us this summer and look forward to seeing the impact she makes!

Program Director Spotlight!

Over the past program year, Julia has played a huge role in the continued growth of CORE Susquehanna.

Through her efforts, CORE expanded into new communities and welcomed 13 new partner sites this year alone, creating more opportunities for individuals to serve throughout the region. She also helped lead the development of our newest partnership with WVIA, expanding the program’s reach into a new county and audience.

In addition to program growth, Julia also led CORE’s recent rebrand and helped redesign the way we collect program data to better align with AmeriCorps and PennSERVE reporting goals.

We’re grateful for her leadership and everything she does behind the scenes to support our members, partner sites, and program growth!

Today was all about teamwork, training, and a little bit of adventure 💙

Our AmeriCorps members completed CPR training this morning before heading to Lake Tobias for a team outing together. It was a busy (and very hot) day, but a great opportunity for members across our program to connect and build community before the summer gets fully underway. ☀️

Today we welcomed 14 summer AmeriCorps members to CORE Susquehanna 💙

Members spent the day getting to know each other, learning more about the program, participating in some friendly competition for prizes, and preparing to begin their service term.

Over the next few months, these members will serve across our partner sites throughout Central Pennsylvania, supporting nonprofits, community programs, environmental initiatives, youth services, and more.

We’re excited to get this service term started!
