Union-Snyder CAA is a member of a nationwide network of Community Action Agencies

Union-Snyder CAA is dedicated to improving our community by helping individuals and families living in low income reach self-sufficiency. We accomplish this by providing services in five components:

- Community Services: Services available to low income families and individuals through Community Services include Housing Assistance, Energy Assistance, Transportation Assistance, Food Referrals, and more.

- Veterans Affairs: Union-Snyder CAA is the home of the Snyder County Veterans Affairs Office, which assists veterans, widows, and dependent children in obtaining benefits that are available from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

- CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps: Union-Snyder CAA administers the local branch of the national AmeriCorps service program. Members commit to a term of service at a local nonprofit organization in exchange for benefits like education support.

- Community Outreach: Union-Snyder CAA works in partnership with local organizations and communities to alleviate the causes and impacts of poverty in Union and Snyder Counties through programs like Strengths-Based Family Worker Credentials & Leadership Certificate, Poverty Simulations, The Linen Closet (TLC) Donation Collection, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), and an annual Family Service Conference each spring.

Thank you to Snyder County Coalition For Kids for spotlighting the Hunger Coalition and our food security work in the Valley at this year’s annual conference! We were thrilled to have our Food Security Director, Rachel Herman, present alongside Morgan Flood of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to share current hunger data, growing needs, and where to find support in our communities. A great event that brought together so many local change-makers!

Union-Snyder Community Action Agency is launching a new one-year funded program and is seeking a compassionate, resourceful Case Manager to help establish services and support individuals and families working toward stability. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, mission-driven leader with strong communication skills and case management and/or human services experience. The program may be renewed based on continued funding and community needs.

Dining With Diabetes is back! This course teaches adults with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes about healthy food and how to keep diabetes in check. Classes meet weekly for four weeks, followed by one class three months later. Family members are welcome, too!

Deadline to register is Friday, October 16th!

Where: The Miller Center for Recreation and Wellness
When: 10:30 AM - 12 PM on Wednesdays (October 21st & 28th, November 4th & 18th)

Thank you to WNEP-TV for their coverage of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank regional meeting which featured CAA Food Security Director, Rachel Herman. CAA food programs saw a 30% increase in services over the last year, and the demand in our own community continues to grow and evolve daily.

We're grateful to have spent this time with with the Central PA Food Bank and other northern region food programs partners as we work to develop solutions as a collective.

We want to say THANK YOU for making this year’s BEET Hunger 5K such an incredible success! 80 of you laced up your sneakers to race and even more came out to support the event as volunteers, cheerleaders, partners, and sponsors. The Hunger Coalition works year-round to end food insecurity in the Valley, and this event supports that work directly. We can’t say how grateful we are for people like you who make our community what it is!

Beet Hunger 5K is HAPPENING THIS WEEK, Saturday 9/26, and the weather is looking perfect for a morning run 🌞👟

Honor Hunger Action Month with us! All ages, all abilities, all excitement welcome! Bring a friend, sign-up with a group of coworkers, invite your congregation or sports team. We can't wait to see you there 💪
