Union-Snyder Community Action Agency

Union-Snyder Community Action Agency Union-Snyder CAA is a member of a nationwide network of Community Action Agencies

Union-Snyder CAA is dedicated to improving our community by helping individuals and families living in low income reach self-sufficiency. We accomplish this by providing services in five components:

- Community Services: Services available to low income families and individuals through Community Services include Housing Assistance, Energy Assistance, Transportation Assistance, Food Referrals, and

more.

- Veterans Affairs: Union-Snyder CAA is the home of the Snyder County Veterans Affairs Office, which assists veterans, widows, and dependent children in obtaining benefits that are available from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

- CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps: Union-Snyder CAA administers the local branch of the national AmeriCorps service program. Members commit to a term of service at a local nonprofit organization in exchange for benefits like education support.

- Community Outreach: Union-Snyder CAA works in partnership with local organizations and communities to alleviate the causes and impacts of poverty in Union and Snyder Counties through programs like Strengths-Based Family Worker Credentials & Leadership Certificate, Poverty Simulations, The Linen Closet (TLC) Donation Collection, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), and an annual Family Service Conference each spring.

Happy Memorial Day from CAA and Snyder County VA! We've been distributing flags to local cemeteries to decorate and honor the legacy of county soldiers for Memorial Day. Our offices are closed on Monday, 5/25, in observance, but we want to take a moment to share a bit of history about the origin of the holiday.

Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established “Decoration Day” as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed each year on May 30, and it’s believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom across the country.

The first large observance was held that year at Arlington National Cemetery.

We'll be open for usual business hours on Tuesday, 5/26 from 9:30-4. Have a wonderful and safe holiday!

Are your tenants struggling? CAA can help them get back on track with bills through supportive services like housing and utilities programs, food distributions, budgeting classes, and more.

And support for other needs means more ability to pay rent on time, avoid eviction, and remain housed.

Fill out the Google Form below and a CAA Housing Navigator will reach out with more information on collaborating with us.
