Congratulations to the Town of Bethlehem on receiving the Gold Medal “Town of Excellence” award! This recognition reflects a community that stays ahead of the curve — committed to smart planning, innovation, and delivering exceptional services. Proud to be part of a town that leads by example across New York State. 🌟🥇🌟

I was in Manhattan yesterday to accept the NY Association of Town’s “Town of Excellence” award on behalf of the Town. There are 933 towns across New York, and Bethlehem was one of only 6 to be recognized at the elite Gold standard.

This award is a statewide recognition of our Town employees’ work and the incredible services they deliver every day. We know they’re the best. Now the rest of the state is beginning to see it too.

Congratulations to Bethlehem’s amazing Town workers!

🚨 Winter Storm Advisory 🚨

Today’s storm is moving through our area. Our highway crews are out and working to keep roads as safe as possible 🚜❄️

We ask residents to stay home if you can and avoid unnecessary travel while conditions improve. Please take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the snowfall and give our crews the space they need to do their jobs.

Upstate New Yorkers know winter; we’re prepared, we’re capable, and we’ve got this. Stay safe.

❄️ Snowstorm Update ❄️
Our Highway crews worked through the night clearing roads and sidewalks to keep everyone moving safely. Thank you to our dedicated team out there in tough conditions!

Temperatures remain cold today, so please use caution, watch for icy spots on roads, sidewalks, and driveways. Slow down, give plows space, and stay safe out there.

Wishing you a very happy holiday season!

❄️ Snowy Day Safety Reminder from the Highway Department ❄️

Today’s weather conditions are not the greatest, and the roads are slick and snow-covered. Our plow crews are out working hard to clear and treat the roads, but we ask everyone to please use extra caution.

If you don’t need to be out driving, please stay home and avoid unnecessary travel. If you must be on the road, take it slow, give our plow trucks plenty of space, and be patient as we work to keep everyone safe.

Your safety is our priority. Stay warm, stay safe, and thank you for your cooperation! 🚧🛠️🚛❄️

Among the key elements of Multi-Use Paths is the recognition that they have a number of utilitarian purposes, for example transportation and safety -- year-round. Thus it is exciting to learn that the Bethlehem Highway Department will be providing winter maintenance, including surface treatment and snow plowing on the Cherry Ave Ext MUP, and its entry/exit path at Kenwood.

The more you look into the worlds of sidewalks, paths, and trails, the more you realize how unique Bethlehem is in its very active program of town-conducted snow and ice removal from non-street surfaces.

We are living up to the theme of having a bike/pedestrian friendly community.

🌿🍁 TOWN OF BETHLEHEM HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT UPDATE 🍁🌿

FALL LEAF & YARD WASTE PICKUP HAS BEGUN!

Each year, the Bethlehem Highway Department collects nearly 20,000 cubic yards of loose leaves, the equivalent of about 200,000 lawn bags!

Our crews are now out with specialized vacuum trucks working zone by zone across town. The process is labor intensive and takes several weeks to complete depending on weather and leaf volume. Please be patient as we work through each neighborhood — we’ll get to you as quickly as possible.

💨 Helpful Reminders:
⭐ Place loose leaves on the lawn at the edge of the road, not in the street.
⭐ Keep storm drains clear to prevent flooding.
⭐ Separate yard waste and branches from leaf piles — branches clog the vacuum.
⭐ Remove basketball hoops and other items from the road edge for crew safety.
⭐ Keep fire hydrants clear and make leaf piles long and narrow rather than deep.

🍂 Weekly Yard Waste Pickup in reusable containers or paper bags continues throughout leaf season for faster service.

🌨️ Winter weather may affect pickup, so please get your leaves out early and often. We will continue collecting as long as conditions allow, usually into December.

Two public information meetings will be held soon to share design plans and gather community feedback. Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and help shape the future of Bethlehem’s walkability.

This project is a major step forward in keeping Bethlehem connected, accessible, and safe for everyone.

The Town was awarded more than $6M in grant funding to improve 5.8 miles of sidewalks along State roads, including portions of Bridge Street, Elsmere Ave, Delaware Ave, Kenwood Ave, and New Scotland Road. Two public information meetings are scheduled to present the project and gather resident feedback on preliminary sidewalk design plans. I hope you can join us!
