Today, we remember.

Memorial Day is a time to honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms we enjoy today will never be forgotten.

As firefighters, we understand the call to serve something greater than ourselves. Today, we pause to reflect on those who answered that call and gave everything in defense of our country.

The Thin Red Line represents firefighters who protect our communities. The Thin Green Line represents those who defended our nation. Together, they remind us that service, sacrifice, and honor know no boundaries.

From all of us at , we extend our deepest gratitude to our fallen heroes and their families.

May we never forget their sacrifice.

๐Ÿšจ Surface Water Technician ๐ŸŒŠ

Members of recently participated in a Surface Water Technician course, sharpening the skills needed to operate safely and effectively during water rescue incidents. Throughout the training, personnel from multiple different agencies including Highlander Fire Protection District and Clark County Emergency Management Agency - Indiana practiced boat operations, self-rescue techniques, victim rescue procedures, boat recovery, and working in challenging aquatic environments.

While many people associate water rescues with rivers and floods, these skills are critical for responses at locations such as Deam Lake, local waterways, flooded roadways, and other water emergencies throughout our community. Continuous training ensures our crews are prepared when seconds matter most.

A special thank you to Olivia Mann with Jeff Parks & Events for allowing us to utilize their facilities for this valuable training opportunity. Partnerships like these help us provide the highest level of service and preparedness for the citizens we serve.

Training never stops because emergencies donโ€™t wait.

Over the past 5 days, the Special Operations Division of proudly conducted and facilitated a Rope Rescue Technician course bringing together members from 4 different agencies for advanced technical rescue training.

This specialized training prepares responders for some of the most challenging emergencies imaginable โ€” from steep terrain and confined spaces to high-angle rescues where precision, teamwork, and technical skill are critical.

By training together, these agencies strengthen regional partnerships, improve interoperability, and ensure our communities receive the highest level of emergency response when seconds matter most.

We are proud of every student and instructor who dedicated long hours to sharpening these lifesaving skills. Training like this is what builds stronger responders, stronger partnerships, and safer communities.

Over the last few days, select members of have been attending Truck Company Operations training through the Fire Department Training Network (FDTN). This nationally recognized program is taught by some of the most experienced and respected firefighters and company officers in the fire service, providing our personnel with advanced hands-on training in modern truck company operations.

Truck companies play a critical role on the fireground that extends far beyond simply โ€œbringing the ladder truck.โ€ These firefighters are responsible for some of the most technical and time-sensitive tasks performed during emergencies. Their duties often include forcible entry, primary search and rescue, ventilation, ladder placement, roof operations, utility control, opening concealed spaces to stop fire spread, and supporting engine companies during fire attack.

This training directly benefits our taxpayers by ensuring our firefighters can operate more efficiently, safely, and effectively during emergencies. Well-trained truck company personnel help improve victim survivability, reduce fire damage, increase firefighter safety, and shorten incident duration โ€” all of which help protect lives, homes, businesses, and community resources.

During this class, members trained on real-world fireground scenarios including coordinated ventilation, search techniques, ladder placement, fireground decision making, and operating in large and multi-story buildings. These skills are especially important as our district continues to grow with larger residential structures, commercial occupancies, schools, apartments, and industrial buildings.

At , we remain committed to investing in professional development and bringing nationally recognized training opportunities back to our community. The knowledge gained from programs like this helps ensure we are prepared to provide the highest level of service when our citizens need us most.
