As a grandchild of Selma’s Voting Rights Movement, Yesterday’s decision by our highest court of our nation is a sin and a shame! By effectively laying the groundwork to steal a congressional seat from a community of interest that was won through a hard fought struggle for freedom and citizenship. The congressional map that struck down was drawn by a neutral party to remedy past and current racial injustice—this same court upheld it a few years ago. It is clear that the majority conservatives of this unsupreme Court is acting in a partisan manner to give the president an advantage in the upcoming midterm election. Once a beacon of fairness and justice, this judicial body for recent decades has worked to erode and undermine all of the democratic gains we’ve made as a nation and tilt the scales away from justice to favor the rich and powerful.

Regardless of your race, you are negatively affected by election chaos that will be wrought. Voting rights, fair maps, and election stability should be virtues valued by all who believe in basic human liberties. If there has ever been a need for court reform, now is the time (term limits and ethics standards). A country cannot stand with such rancor, open collusion, and corruption. 250 years in this experiment in democracy and what we are witnessing in real time is a fall of an empire. It is up to us collectively, we who believe in freedom, to save it. We have work and clean up to do!

Thank you!

"I believe in the Alabama death penalty. I have voted to uphold death sentences. I am not writing this piece to argue that Alabama should abolish capital punishment. I am writing it because Alabama is about to execute a man whose own jury voted that he should live.

Jeffery Lee has been on Alabama’s death row for over two decades. He was convicted of a terrible crime: the murder of two people at a pawn shop outside Orrville in 1998. Nothing I write here is meant to minimize the gravity of those killings or the grief of the victims’ families. Those lives mattered," Drayton Nabers, Jr. writes.

Voting is life or Death!

Dallas County Man, Jeffery Lee to be put to death based on law (Judicial override) that Alabama abandoned in 2017.

Jurors voted for Life without parole but it was overturned by the circuit judge (1998 case) and he was given the death penalty.

Sign the petition to Gov. Ivey and let your voice be heard, Jeffery Lee’s life matters and he shouldn’t be put to death.

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

The first Memorial Day observance is credited to formerly enslaved Black Americans in Charleston, South Carolina, in May 1865. They gathered to properly bury fallen Union soldiers and held a solemn tribute honoring those who gave their lives for freedom and the preservation of the Union.

Today, Memorial Day is a sacred American holiday for all people to observe and celebrate through remembrance, gratitude, and reflection.

We honor. We remember. We are grateful. 🇺🇸

Happy Memorial Day!
