Why vote for Mike Lewis for Selma City Council Ward 1?
This is a pivotal election for the City of Selma. If we are to move forward successfully, we need dedicated people in places of leadership who understand our city and have the vision and relational skills to bring needed changes. I am running for City Council because I believe I am uniquely qualified for just such a moment as this.
I am a Selma native who graduated as part of the last class of Parrish High School in 1970. I I graduated with a B.A.in Psychology from Auburn University in 1974, then went on to earn Master and Doctoral degrees at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
I started new churches in Huntington, IN and Fall River, MA before returning to Alabama to serve for nine years as Alabama Coordinator for New Church Starts. I also served as President of Alabama Faith Council for two years.
I returned to Selma in 2011 and currently serve as a local church pastor and hospice chaplain.
I have been active in Selma’s organizations and civic groups since my return. I just finished the Class 26 of Leadership Selma-Dallas County. For three years I have served as Cochair of the Economic Design Team and I just completed the racial equity and nonviolence training series, “Beyond Divide & Conquer: From Theory to Action.”
I will bring my education, entrepreneurial leadership, extensive experience, and proven character to my service on the City Council. Working together, we can restore good governance to our city and restore civic pride.
My priorities will be public safety, cleanliness, code enforcement, infrastructure, and sustainable tourism. My values are mutual respect, accountability, transparency, open communication, and perseverance. I know how to work within organizations to get things done.
Vote Mike Lewis for City Council Ward 1. Let’s make Selma a place we can all be proud of. It’s time.
