The Selma Police Department joins the Law Enforcement community in mourning the loss of our brother in blue. Thoughts and prayers for Officer Putnum’s family both blood and blue as well as the two wounded Officers Stewart and Mueller. Keep SMPD in your prayers as they deal with this tragic loss.

Our family in blue is mourning the loss of our fallen brother, Officer Justin R. Putnam, who was killed in the line of duty last evening. Officer Putnam was with SMPD for more than five years. Words can never adequately express our profound sorrow for Officer Putnam's family and loved ones. To say he will be missed is an understatement. Two other officers were wounded during the same incident, Officer Franco C. Stewart and Officer Justin P. Mueller. Both are in critical but stable condition following surgeries. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families. We respectfully ask that all three families are given time to grieve and deal with their situations in private but we thank the community for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support. We greatly appreciate it.

Weather Advisory

Isolated to Widely Scattered Showers and Storms Possible Late this Afternoon and Evening - Some Possibly Severe
Scattered to Numerous Showers and Storms Thursday Afternoon - Some Possibly Severe

Area of Concern:
Late this afternoon and evening: Best chances will be across portions of the Hill Country and Central Texas, including Austin
Thursday afternoon and early evening: Best chances near and south of the I-10/U.S. 90 corridor, including San Antonio

Threats & Impacts:
Hail: Large hail 1" in diameter (size of quarters) or greater with any severe storms. Potential for some severe storms to produce hail 2" in diameter (size of limes) or greater.
Winds: A few damaging wind gusts are possible

Tornadoes: An isolated tornado is possible

Rainfall: Isolated pockets of a quick 1-2" of rain on Thursday could cause flooding

Timing and Overview:
A weak disturbance could allow for isolated to widely scattered storms to develop late this afternoon and evening. The atmosphere will be warm and very unstable and could support hail in excess of 2 inches in diameter in some severe storms. A few damaging wind gusts are also possible late afternoon and evening. The severe threat late this afternoon and evening is conditional on the atmosphere being able to produce storms. In other words, should storms form conditions are favorable for them to become severe. However confidence in storms actually forming is lower than usual. The area with the greatest chance of seeing storms form late this afternoon and evening is across portions of the Hill Country and Central Texas, including the Austin metro area.

Better chances for showers and storms are forecast Thursday afternoon ahead of a cold front, especially for locations roughly near and south of the I-10/U.S. 90 corridor, including the San Antonio metro area. Like today, the atmosphere on Thursday afternoon will be very unstable and could support hail in excess of 2 inches in diameter in some severe storms, along with a few damaging wind gusts. Unlike today, we are more confident in storms actually forming Thursday afternoon given the cold front and an upper level disturbance. In addition, some isolated pockets of heavy rainfall will be possible on Thursday roughly near and south of the I-10/U.S. 90 corridor.

Finally, another round of showers and storms is possible on Saturday, with a few strong to severe storms possible.

Confidence:

Today: Low
Thursday: Moderate

Weather Advisory:

Severe thunderstorms possible Friday afternoon and evening
Heavy rainfall possible Friday afternoon through Saturday morning

Area of Concern:
Almost all of South-Central Texas

Threats & Impacts:
Rainfall: Widespread 1 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches. Isolated flash flooding could be possible.

Winds: Thunderstorm wind gusts up to 70 mph

Hail: Large hail up to 2 inches in diameter

Tornadoes: Potential is low but a tornado cannot be completely ruled out Friday afternoon/evening near the cold front

Timing and Overview:
A cold front will approach and eventually move through the region Friday afternoon and into late Friday/early Saturday, triggering widespread showers and thunderstorms. A few storms could be severe Friday afternoon and evening, with large hail and damaging winds being the primary threats. These storms on Friday afternoon and evening may also produce locally heavy rainfall, with moderate rainfall expected to continue behind the front into Saturday morning. Widespread 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected, with isolated locations receiving up to 4 inches. Isolated flash flooding could be possible as forecast rainfall amounts have been trending upward.

Confidence:
Moderate

Lets go on a Bear Hunt!

Try one in your neighborhood! Set up a ‘bear hunt’ to keep your little ones (and not so little ones) entertained during their extended spring break.

Everyone who wants to participate should put a teddy bear in a front window so families can go on a bear hunt. Families will walk around the neighborhood and try to spot as many bears as possible.

The bear hunt is based on a children’s book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury called" We’re Going On A Bear Hunt."

Come by the Selma Police Department and see if you can spot a bear or two! City of Selma, Texas Selma Fire Department

LOL!!!

In all seriousness. There is a lot of misinformation out there and some silly logic going around. Let us set the record straight.

If you commit a crime you will STILL go to jail. We will either take you to jail straight away or we will file your case and you will answer for it at a later date.

Thanks to Selma PD for keeping it quiet on New Years Eve. This was the most quiet holiday since we moved here. We have young children who are scared by fireworks and last night we only heard a couple in the distance. Good job!
Any update on shooter heard off of Evans Road tonight?
$7K REWARD for the return of our 2 Missing Golden Retrievers! They were lost by the Rover sitter on June 18th at the address 18385 Babcock Rd, San Antonio TX running toward Camp Bullis Rd and the Lutheran HS. Acoria is 7 years old, 80-90lbs and wearing a pink Star Wars collar. Ripley is 4 years old, 70lbs and wearing a purple polka dot collar. Both had our info on their tags. Both are micro-chipped and spayed (green tattoos on their bellies). If you have found, seen or know where they are, we beg of you to call us.. Thank you. https://www.facebook.com/BringAcoriaandRipleyhome/

Anybody knows what happened at the forum today around 11:30am cops were every where in front of the maxx
I would like to personally thank the officer who helped my 16 year old daughter out when she got a flat tire on Evans Rd. You went above and beyond and even drove her to school. Thank you so very much for your kindness! Kudos to you and please know you're very much appreciated.
What happened in Retama Springs tonight?
If anyone knows this person, can you ask her to please stop spending my money on auto parts? Thanks!!!
