The Town of Selma and Selma Fire Department are proud to announce the promotion of Justin Godwin and Walt Miller to the rank of Fire Captain.

Both Captains have been members of the Selma Fire Department since 2019 and have worked their way through the ranks while gaining valuable experience and developing a deep understanding of our department, our operations, and the community we serve.

Captain Justin Godwin – A Shift
Captain Godwin has progressed through the ranks from Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, and now Captain. His experience in multiple roles within the organization has given him a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to operate effectively at both the company and department levels. As an A Shift Captain, Justin will continue to lead his crew, develop his members, and push them to become better firefighters and better leaders.

Captain Walt Miller – B Shift
Captain Miller has served Selma Fire since 2019 and has progressed from Firefighter to Lieutenant and now Captain. Walt’s time within the organization has given him a strong understanding of our operations, expectations, and the needs of our members. As a B Shift Captain, he will focus on developing his crew, building strong leadership within his company, and continuing to move the department forward.

These promotions represent more than just new titles. Both Captains have invested years into this organization, learned the job from the ground up, and earned the opportunity to lead.

The Town of Selma Fire Department proudly welcomes Brannan Barbee as our new Fire Chief.

Chief Barbee joined the Selma Fire Department in 2012 after serving with the Kinston Fire Department. Over the past 14 years, he has dedicated himself to this department and our community, rising through the ranks from firefighter to Fire Captain, Assistant Chief, and now Fire Chief.

Having spent more than a decade serving the Town of Selma, Chief Barbee has developed a deep understanding of our organization, our firefighters, and the needs of the community we protect. His experience, leadership, and commitment make him uniquely prepared to lead the department into its next chapter.

Chief Barbee succeeds Chief McDaniel, who faithfully served as Fire Chief since 2007. Under Chief McDaniel’s leadership, the Selma Fire Department established a strong foundation built on professionalism, service, and progress. We are grateful for his years of dedication and the lasting impact he has made on our department and our town.

As we look to the future, we are confident that Chief Barbee will continue building upon that foundation—strengthening our department, investing in our members, and ensuring the citizens of Selma continue to receive the exceptional fire and emergency services they deserve.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Brannan Barbee on this well-earned promotion and wishing him continued success as he leads the Selma Fire Department into the future.
