PRESS RELEASE: On June 1st, 2026, Selma Police Officers responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of Whitson and First Street at approximately 8:00 a.m. As officers arrived on scene, they determined that a male adult had been struck by a vehicle at, or about this intersection, and had succumbed to his injuries. Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle who remained on scene and is fully cooperating with this investigation. At this time there appears to be no drugs or alcohol related to this incident.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased, and his identity is being withheld to ensure proper notification of his next of kin.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area while investigators remain on scene. Temporary road closures are in effect and are expected to remain in place until the investigation is completed.

We want to remind our motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant as they navigate our roadways.

Our wonderful neighbors over at Rolling Hills Care Center stopped by to not only surprise our staff, but they had some goodies for our officers! (They always do!!!) What makes this drop off special is this week is National Police Week! 🚔💙🖤💙🖤 National police week honors the sacrifices, courage, and service that the brave men and women do without hesitation, for their communities. 🤗💙🚔

Last night, Selma police department held our AB 481 community presentation, where we displayed our “Military Equipment” to the community. Members of the community were openly invited to see the display of equipment, ask questions, and have understanding of what capabilities Selma Police Department’s “Military Equipment” can perform and how it is utilized by our department and officers. Thank you to those who stopped by! 🤗🚔🎖️

Last Friday, Selma Police Department was given the opportunity to participate in Badges with Buckets, which supports and raises money for the Special Olympics, at our Sylvia and Second Starbucks location. Selma Police Department raised a total of $759.31 🤗🚔💙 Thank you to all the members of our community that participated by stopping by, saying hi to our officers, or donating 🙏🏻💙🚔

Yesterday, the Fresno County Peace Officers Memorial Foundation held a memorial service to acknowledge and honor Law Enforcement Officers within California, and Fresno County who paid the ultimate price for the communities. Selma Police Department knows about loss of their own. This is one of the few ways Selma Police Department continues to honor fallen Officer Gonzalo Carrasco. (EOW 01/31/23)🙏🏻

Selma PD personnel were able to meet Savannah, Fresno Police Departments’ therapy dog, who was providing comfort and calm presence for all those who attended. She even posed for a picture! 🐶💙🖤💙🖤
