In observance of the 9/11 Day of Service, the Selma AmeriCorps Program is honoring those who served our country by serving those right here at home.

We are seeking Veterans who live in the City of Selma and need assistance with minor housing repairs and/or landscaping. Selected Veterans will receive service assistance from AmeriCorps members as part of our 9/11 Day of Service initiative, sponsored by A.T.A.P. and the City of Selma.

This transformation is more than fresh paint and curb appeal. It represents service, teamwork, and a commitment to strengthening our community one home at a time.

Our Selma AmeriCorps Neighborhood Development Initiative members worked together to clear heavy overgrowth, improve the exterior, and restore the home’s appearance, proving that when people invest in their community, lasting change happens.

Every restored home helps build a stronger, safer, and more beautiful neighborhood. This is the power of national service in action.

When education and certification tie back to service, communities are transformed.

These AmeriCorps members are applying the masonry skills they’ve learned in the classroom directly to neighborhood revitalization projects, proving that education becomes even more powerful when it’s put into action. Every block laid represents more than a certification. It represents workforce development, hands on experience, and a lasting investment in the community. Building skills. Building neighborhoods. Building futures.

Serving Selma, One Resident, One Home at a Time

Our dedicated Engagement Assistants are working directly with residents to help them navigate the application process for the Healthy Homes Program (HHP) and Lead Hazard Reduction Program (LHRP).

From answering questions and completing applications to gathering required documentation, our volunteers are committed to ensuring eligible families can access critical funding opportunities designed to create safer, healthier homes throughout our community.

Through these programs, qualified homeowners are accessing funding for:
• Home repairs and rehabilitation
• Environmental assessments and testing
• Lead-based paint hazard control activities
• Healthy homes interventions and hazard reduction measures

Every conversation, application, and home visit brings us one step closer to improving housing conditions and enhancing the quality of life for Selma residents.

These efforts would not be possible without the dedication of our Selma AmeriCorps members, who serve on the front lines of community engagement every day. Their compassion, patience, and commitment help ensure that our neighbors have access to the resources they need to make their homes healthier and safer.

Our Workforce Craftsmen, alongside incredible community partners ATAP Community Development Corporation, Gospel Tabernacle Cogic-Selma, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church and Foundation came together to support an elderly homeowner after the loss of his wife.

This is what it means to stand in the gap as family.
