Homicide Detectives Investigating Case of Body Found Along Highway in Coalinga
Detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office are working to identify a man who is the victim of a homicide and can use the public’s help.
Thursday morning, Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a call from a person who was driving along Highway 198 in Coalinga. The caller said they pulled off the side of the road, got out of their vehicle and discovered a deceased person off the roadway, lying in the weeds. This was located in a remote area of Hwy. 198, which is near the Monterey County line.
Patrol deputies responded and secured the scene as they waited for homicide detectives to arrive. Detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit examined evidence. The body of the man was then transported to the Coroner’s Office.
Friday morning, an autopsy and toxicology tests were performed on the victim. He is a Hispanic man, possibly in his 20s, whose name has not been determined. He had multiple gunshot wounds and it appears his death occurred several days before being discovered.
