SCAM ALERT

Citizens need to be aware that Facebook scam messages are circulating again claiming to be from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles about an “unpaid traffic ticket.”

The message threatens things like:
• suspension of vehicle registration
• suspension of driving privileges
• collection fees
• legal action
• credit score damage

It also pushes you to click a suspicious link or reply to the message.

This is a scam.

Please do not click the link, do not reply, and do not provide any personal or payment information. Delete it and report it as spam.

A few red flags:
• urgent threats and scare tactics
• suspicious web links
• requests for immediate payment
• instructions to reply or reopen the message to access the link

Please share this so others in our community do not fall victim.

The NWS in Midland has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Tuesday, February 17 which includes winds of up to 60 mph. Be sure if you have anything out, tie it down or put it away! Be careful with cigarette butts, welders, and anything else that could spark.

..WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE
SATURDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Moderate to heavy accumulations of ice, sleet, or snow are
possible across the Guadalupe Mountains, Permian Basin, Upper
Trans-Pecos, and Southeast New Mexico Friday afternoon through
early Sunday morning. In addition, dangerous cold temperatures are
expected Saturday night through Monday morning.

* WHERE...Portions of southeast New Mexico and southwest and western
Texas.

* WHEN...From Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation on
power lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lasting
power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
