Looks like the Pinellas sheriff was busy this weekend.

Law enforcement officers from nine agencies targeted drunken drivers in Pinellas overnight. Their final tally: 41 total criminal charges and 159 total citations during the 10-hour operation.

Busy week for YOU and the law. The Florida legislature passed laws that go into effect this week that will affect how you drive, how you can be criminally charged with drag racing or merely speeding, and whether or not you can be charged with a felony or misdemeanor theft.

Then the US Supreme Court decided (wrongly in my opinion) that a sleeping person can have blood taken from them, even without their consent.

This week's legal news:
June 12, 2019: Would you rather give up your phone password or go to jail? The answer is you don't have to choose. The Constitution protects you from divulging that information as a violation of your 5th Amendment privilege against self-incrimination as well as a violation against police abusing your 4th Amendment right against unlawful search and seizure. A court this past week dismissed charges against a person who took the proper stand and said NO to the police when they asked him for his password. Like many who suffer the consequences of being brave (he spent 44 days in jail in contempt of court until the court ultimately dismissed the charge), just remember it is your Constitutional right to keep your cell phone information private and just say NO to the police if they want your cell phone password.
