I would like to say thank you for all those that came out to vote and for those that voted for me. It looks like it was not my time this go around and I am looking towards the future. I have really enjoyed the process and have learned a lot. May God be with those that have been elected and I pray they do right by the people of Oconee County.

It’s the final countdown!!! 1 week until Election Day and I am feeling motivated!
Hilary Ziglar aka Zig Ziglar, a great motivational speaker and businessman, once stated, “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude” and I could not agree more. Yes, life can be hard and some work days can be trouble but our attitudes must raise above the situations. School can be challenging for anyone that is involved and we as parents, teachers, and administrators need to understand that a good attitude can go along way. We have to remain positive for others around us and lift each other up.

Ziglar also stated that “if you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” We must stay determined and strive towards the path of learning. Education is a key that can open many doors and lead to success.

This last quote is my favorite. “Kids go where there is excitement. They stay where there is love.” We have to make school exciting for children and we need to show them they are loved no matter what. The same can be said about anyone. Excitement draws crowds and Love keeps them there. Love is a strong word, it means many things, and it can also teach so much!

Some of you have received my flyers and I was recently asked to explain the meaning behind it.

Provide Opportunity: I want to provide opportunity across the board. To students through better classroom instruction, work experiences, personal / emotional / mental health, leadership, safety, and much more. To teachers through speaking their thoughts and being heard, better pay, focused curriculums, furthering their own education, and consolidating work loads. To parents through being heard, encouraging them to be a part, and focusing on family growth. To administrators through educational opportunities, simplifying local requirements, building relationships with local partners, and much more. To the community through open dialogue, partnerships, helping with vacancies in both schools / businesses, and focused educational needs.

Build Community: In short, it is public education and we need to include the public. I want our education system to be a community of everyone coming together to educate our students. Be it, parents, teachers, administrators, business partners, other local entities, and the students themselves coming together to better our local education system.

Encourage Unity: We need to begin to unify our education system and stop thinking in the way of the theys and thems. In my opinion, the general consensus of education is to educate someone so that they can be a benefit to themselves, their families, and their communities. We often thank so much of our differences and we really need to start focusing on the real issues that are truly affecting our students. This can be done with healthy discussion and open dialogue.

Hope everyone is able to get out and vote! This election like all elections is important and every vote matters! I have really enjoyed the process thus far and am so thankful for the support.

Early voting started today and will continue through out the week. God be with our communities, states, and nation as a whole during this time. I am so excited to see the out come of this election and pray that everyone gets a chance to go out and vote!

Also as a side note: REMEMBER That You must select a candidate for School Board bc it is shown as non-partisan on the Ballot. So if you vote straight party please make sure you have also selected the school board member you want to vote for. Hoping that member is me lol but want to keep everyone informed.

Remember to share and spread the word!

More about me:

Since the age of 13, I have had the privilege of traveling to 16 different countries within 4 different continents. Most of these trips where mission trips and one of the trips I traveled as a student ambassador, which encompassed 4 of those countries. Going on these trips have opened up my eyes to many things and has helped me to appreciate the things here in America, as well as, appreciate having the opportunity of being welcomed into these countries. These trips have helped me to learn about different cultures, beliefs, and about other peoples day-to-day lives. I am about to visit my 17th country, Israel, and I am so excited! One of my passions is to help provide opportunities or encourage youth and young adults to travel and get a worldly perspective. My worldly perspective has been able to help me understand that there are people with different beliefs, cultures, and thoughts. Does not mean that I have to agree with them but it allows me to understand them better and treat others with respect. We have to begin to encourage communication, discussion, and tolerance. We are called as humans to treat others the way we want to be treated and to love our neighbors. You might be saying, “with all those trips you would think that you would want to move out of your hometown lol, however, I feel that God has called me back to Little ole Seneca SC and to use the tools that He has blessed me with to impact our community.

I would like to give a shout out to all my friends in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Jamaica, Bahamas, South Korea , and of course all those all over the USA!!! Thank you for welcoming me into your countries, homes, churches, and lives! You all have truly been a blessing!

Had a great time today with several of your local partners, sharing community resources with the students of Oconee County. The students were able to learn about adult Ed, registering to vote, banking, TCTC, drivers Ed, SCVRD, Oconee sheriffs department, SC works, and public transportation. We all learned about the resources at the Blue Ridge Community Center and I was amazed at what they have to offer the community. Thankful for the partners at the Hamilton Career and Technology Center for hosting the event. I so enjoy giving back to the community and helping student gain access to valuable knowledge. This was not the end of my day however, Dan and I got to share resources with Pickens County students at a resource fair held at Easley high school. Busy day but I love getting to do what I do!

A great statement that was made at a school parent involvement meeting was just shared with me by a friend.

“We are unabashedly pro American here.
We don’t believe in equity of outcome, we believe in equality of opportunity. We don’t believe in teaching what to think, we want to teach them how to think. “

I’m in full agreement with this statement and it sums up a very sound policy to go by. We need to encourage critical thinking skills and independence of mind. In addition, this is America and I believe that everyone should have equal opportunity. Equity pulls resources from others that may need it and those resources should be made available to everyone.
