On October 16th, the Kansas Department of Commerce held the 2025 To The Stars: Kansas Businesses Awards at the Robert W. Plaster Center at Pittsburg State University. The annual awards program recognizes businesses across the state for the valuable contributions they make to the Kansas economy and to the well-being of their communities. A record 431 businesses, organizations, and individuals were nominated in 11 different categories for this year’s awards ceremony. KRWA received the northeast regional award for Apprenticeship Champions and Partners. KRWA Apprenticeship Coordinator, Monica Wurtz, and Technical Assistant/Trainer, Stewart Kasper, were in attendance to receive the award from Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce, David Toland.

Congratulations to Rooks Co. RWD #3's own Mark Axelson from Plainville, KS for finishing in FIRST PLACE in the Ultimate Meter Challenge sponsored by Zenner at the NRWA WaterPro Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana! Participants qualified by winning the challenge at their respective state rural water conferences. Mark competed against 27 other individuals at WaterPro to win a trip to Hawaii for him and his family. Congratulations, Mark!!!
