Civil asset forfeiture is state sponsored theft. It is a violation of the Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and oftentimes Fourth Amendments. No one should have their property confiscated by the state without being charged with a crime, and as the burden of proof lies on the accuser in the American justice system, reasonable proof must be provided in the court of law that any and all assets seized were obtained through illegal means. When elected, I will work with all involved state agencies to address civil asset forfeiture.
