Today, Chief Edens and the entire team at the Senoia Police Department stand together with our community to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

We enjoy our freedom, our safety, and our way of life because of the selfless individuals who answered the call of duty and never returned home. Their courage is a debt we can never fully repay, but it is a legacy we must never forget.

As President John F. Kennedy once beautifully reminded us:

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."

Today, as you spend time with family and friends in our beautiful town, please join us in taking a moment of silence to reflect on the true meaning of this day. To the fallen heroes and the families they left behind: Senoia remembers, and we are eternally grateful.

Have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

“Click It or Ticket” seat belt awareness and enforcement campaign begins May 18th

The Senoia Police Department joins Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to remind everyone to always buckle up

Motorists are reminded not to risk a ticket by always remembering to ‘click it’ and buckle their seat belt before the start of every trip.

Senoia Police Department is joining the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for the national “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign that runs from May 18th through May 31st, which includes the Memorial Day Holiday travel weekend.

During this period, Senoia Police Department will join state and local law enforcement agencies working to save lives on Georgia roads and highways through the enforcement of Georgia’s seat belt and child passenger safety law laws.

Georgia law requires front seat passengers in all vehicles to wear a seat belt. All children between the ages of 8 and 17 are required to wear a seat belt when riding in the front and back seat and children ages seven and under are required by law to ride in a child safety seat that is recommended by the manufacturer based on height and weight of the child.

“Law enforcement officers see the difference wearing a seat belt makes on a daily basis, which is why we will continue to use education and enforcement to promote seat belt use,” Senoia Police Department Lieutenant C. Leveillard said. “Taking a few seconds to click the seat belt before every trip could lead to a lifetime of memories so please make the right choice by always wearing your seat belt.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 9,758 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes in the United States in 2024.

Federal crash data showed 51% of the passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in Georgia from 2020-2024 were not wearing seat belts and 53% of passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in rural areas in the state during the same five-year period were not wearing seat belts.

According to NHTSA, wearing a seat belt in the front seat of a passenger car can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45 percent and it reduces the risk of fatal injury by 60 percent for those wearing a seat belt in the light truck.

“The safety features in our vehicles are designed to be most effective when everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt and small children are riding in a properly installed safety seat,” Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said. “The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety thanks all of our law enforcement partners for the lives they save every day on our roads through education and enforcement.”

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and Senoia Police Department offer these safe driving tips:

1. Drive at safe and reasonable speeds and never try to speed to make up time.

2. Buckle up before starting your vehicle

3. Avoid distractions such as phones, conversations, reaching for items in your vehicle

4. Program navigation devices before getting on the road

5. Do not drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs

May 18th is also the beginning of the “100 Days of Summer HEAT” mobilization that will run through Labor Day Weekend. Senoia Police Department and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety remind everyone to make the summer travel period safer by driving safe speeds, avoiding distractions, especially phones, never driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and always wearing a seat belt.

This week, May 10- May 16, is National Police Week.

National Police Week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

This week we will be highlighting Georgia Law Enforcement Officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in 2025.

Today we honor Deputy Sheriff Joe Crumption. Deputy Sheriff Joe Crumption suffered a fatal heart attack after transporting felony inmates to the Spalding County Sheriff's Office.

The first transport from the Clayton County Sheriff's Office involved three inmates with a violent history of assault against law enforcement officers and escaping custody. Immediately afterward, Deputy Crumpton transported an inmate awaiting trial for drug charges and assaulting the elderly from Bartow County, which was a drive of over 2 1/2 hours each way.

While driving in a patrol vehicle on Hampton Road near SR-92 around 5:00 p.m., Deputy Crumption experienced a heart attack and crashed his vehicle. Witnesses at the scene provided immediate life-saving measures, but Deputy Crumption was unable to be resuscitated.

Deputy Crumpton was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Spalding County Sheriff's Office for over two years. Survivors include his wife, seven children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Thank you Deputy Crumpton for your service to our community. Your legacy will never be forgotten.

This week we will be highlighting Georgia Law Enforcement Officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in 2025.

Today we honor Officer Davidson Rose. Police Officer David Rose was shot and killed responding to an active shooter at the CVS at 520 Avenue Place in Atlanta near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at Emory University. The suspect was brandishing multiple guns, firing at the windows of the CDC building around 4:50 p.m. When law enforcement arrived, he turned and fired at the officers. Officer Rose was struck and succumbed to his wounds at Emory University Hospital. Another officer received non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was found on the 2nd floor of the CVS with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He died at the scene. Officer Rose was a United States Marine Corps veteran and had served with the DeKalb County Police Department for 11 months. He is survived by his expectant wife, two children, mother, and brother.

In October 2025, he was posthumously honored with the law enforcement Purple Heart and law enforcement Medal of Honor by the Atlanta Police Department, the Mayor of Atlanta, and the DeKalb County CEO.

Thank you Deputy Rose for your service to our community. Your legacy will never be forgotten.

This week we will be highlighting Georgia Law Enforcement Officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in 2025.

Today we honor Deputy Sheriff Brandon Sikes. Deputy Sheriff Brandon Sikes was shot and killed during an attempted traffic stop just before exit 194 on Interstate 20, near Augusta, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Deputy Sikes and three other deputies were serving a domestic violence protective order on the subject. At first, the man was compliant and non-threatening, but when deputies turned away, he fired at them with a 9mm AR Pistol. Deputy Sikes was mortally wounded. Another deputy was shot in the face. Two deputies returned fire. One of the deputies gathered the injured deputy through a barrage of gunfire and transported him to the hospital, where he recovered from gunshot wounds to his face.

The suspect attempted to flee in his camper but crashed on the highway. Hours later, drones found the suspect dead from a gunshot wound inside his camper with pipe bombs, fi****ms, and ammunition.

Deputy Sikes was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office for over six years. He is survived by his wife, who also serves with the agency, a daughter, parents, three brothers, nieces, and a nephew.

Thank you Deputy Sikes for your service to our community. Your legacy will never be forgotten.
